But all the 16V dyno sheets have the same curve, which looks pretty much like my '81 (with exhaust mods) curve. Massive torque, but the HP is peaky. It's the size of the intake, or the valves, or?

I'm not knocking his work, but it seems like a lot of effort/plumbing for the gain.

It could be rpm pickup issues, but my charts have tended to be jagged at the top end - the last time a pint of Toulene smoothed it out - IE unheard detonation.

In the first two charts, the larger humps are torque, the third, the larger is HP.

STD correction, for these runs SAE is: -7HP, -10TQ

Yep it is all dandy but....

You still have to fab up the cold side, intercooler, etc, and then do all the tuning or a conversion like John did.

To me just the hot side wouldn't be all that attractive...

Just sayin'

I guess he just forgot to put in the auction that those dyno results were with a custom built engine and using a custom fuel injection setup.

Shape of those headers illustrate well how difficult engine bay 928 has for tuning. They are worst part of turbo setup to make in my option so they should be most expensive also.

12 minutes left. Still under $1700 US. You Canadian guys should take advantage of the weak dollar vs the loonie.

Only four bidders, that is surprising. I was expecting a surge at the end.

I was tempted and would have enjoyed getting ahold of what is the hardest part of a turbo project but auctions with a reserve blow and are a waste of time.

Problem is, the motor these parts were installed on had a coated block, custom JE pistons, cams that never came installed on an L-Jet car, and an after market MAF conversion EFI setup.

So unless you are a fabricator or have a huge budget, it’s not a simple project to take on.

The thought crossed my mind about a project like this (years ago Todd drew up plans for a turbo S4 in Jim Pages car, back around 96). The idea was scrapped for the simplicity of a blower.
My goal is 400rwhp from a 4.7 or 5.0 16V motor using a 3rd party engine management system. IMO the small amount of boost needed does not justify the cost or complexity of a turbo.
My 81 sure opened my eyes to the potential of these engines.

Not sure, the replica Cobra I picked up in June derailed a lot of projects I was going to do this past summer. I was having too much fun driving the hell out of that car.

The 79 is in a heated garage all winter with my donor 5.0 next to it. I'm sourcing the parts for the EFI conversion. I'm taking two weeks off at the end of December to jump head first into this.

Step 1 is tear into the 5.0 and make sure it's going to work. After that it's just putting an engine together
