Question 1st time not starting...

Have a 1993 GTS and drive infrequently...but turn it over every 3-4 weeks and keep the battery at full charge...Went to fire it up and it cranks like all get-out but will not fire. It'll fire with starter fluid. I don't hear the fuel pump buzz when I turn the key. Fuel pump fuse is fine. Fule pump relay is ? My question is if this kind of occurrence out of the blue makes sense?... is it most likely the fuel pump or is there something I can still check that might be an easy fix?...yeah, I know...good luck...right?...Either way, I'm not a mechanic and can have it towed easily enough...was just hoping that I might be able to do something easy at home. Thanks much. Ed PS...whats the best battery maintenance charging system to use...I've heard Bobby Likis tralking about "Extreme" brand chargers...

It sounds like the fuel pump is not running...which is an easy check...just pull the fuel pump relay...& jumper the two horizontal connections....this bypasses the relay, sends the voltage straight to the fuse then to the pump....if you don't hear the pump running....thats a hint...

Then pull the cover that protects the fuel pump under the gas tank and check the voltage when jumpered...if theres voltage but pump still doesn't run....I think we have a winner

BUT chances are you have two pumps...so you will need to check both once the cover is off...one is inside the tank and the other is easy to see....

Even if you got two pumps it would probably start even if it didn't run very well if the intank pump is dead.
Once you've got to the remove the fuel pump cover stage seeing if you have the intank pump is easy - looking forwards from the back of the 928, the fuel exits the tank via the pipe that is to the left hand side of the area you have just exposed by remiving the cover. trace the pipe leftwards and forwards to where it meets the tank. if there are two wires connected to terminal where the pipe goes into the tank you have an in tank pump.

Remioving the pump cover - Head under rear of 928, right hand side, look up between the rear pu (bumper cover) and the tank (black plastic) you should see two 10mm nuts the RHS of which has a pipe clip and a see through pipe attached to it. undo these two nuts. Then with goggles on (the fuel pump cover normally contains a truck load of rusty mud whose sole purpose in life is to get in your eyes) slide the fuel pump cover rearwards at the bottom to unclip it from the rest of the tank cradle, and off the captive bolts whose nuts you just undid.

That'll do for now. tools required - A 10mm spanner or a 10mm socket and ratchet, AND GOGGLES.

Alright!, another Ormond Beach GTS. I've seen your car, (black one right?) at Ryan's Shop.....very nice.

It does sound like a fuel pump, I've done that replacment before, fairly easy. As long as you don't mind a little gasoline smell on your hands.

Let me know if I can be of any help, rpw@bellsouth.net.

First turn on the key and blow the horn...Now that you have a known working relay pull the horn relay out of the sixth spot from the left on the top row (ignore the roman numerals) then remove first the 10 th from the left top row and insert your known good relay. Have someone crank the car while you have your ear down near the back of the gas tank. If you hear the pump it is running. If not put the original relay back and the try your known good relay in position 12th position from the left top row that is power for the injection brain.
