Thank you for the offer Paul. I'm certain at this point that the car is a Weissach Edition based on the paint code, interior, wheels and VIN falling within the range. Based on Roger's post above, it looks like finding out which one of the 205 it is will not be possible.
Roger, thank you for the information, that probably saved me alot of frustration. I do have a list of previous owners, maybe the original owner will recall which number it was.
Any interest in parting with that spare bag?

I tried figuring the # system out a while back.
Seem slike they just intermittently pulled a set of/or a single chassis off the line and furbished them as Weissach's. Probably a little more -not much- certainy to approximate number would be the build date.
It's on the plate...though in the end you would probably have to wade thru production line build slips ... if they still exist ... for confirmation.
Nice example in any case.
Check for creep/walking now!

I have a list of the "known to me Weissach's" and there is no corolation between the VIN and the Weissach number. Also the "Birth Certificate" from Porsche does not give the number either.
Number 1 Weissach has a VIN of 1677. Number 91 has a VIN of 1566.
Mine is number 172 and the VIN is 1605.
Unless you get very lucky and find the badge in a hiding spot I would say it is impossible to find out what number it is.
I have the complete set of luggage and one spare bag.

I have never actually seen one, but those who bought their car's "birth certificate" from Porsche (not sure of the actual name). Wouldn't that record also contain the number in the case of a Weissach?

Hi Paul,
Thats what I thought but mine does not.
It just states in the option list that it was built with the Weissach package.
The attached is not my certificate but another one from another Weissach owner.
Mine just states "Special Model 'Weissach 1982'.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

One would have thought that being a Limited, numbered edition, there would have been a database of that specific production somewhere.

I always hate it when a thread ends and nobody knows what happened so I thought I'd post a follow up. My Certificate of Authenticity arrived from Porsche today and confirmed that my car is a Weissach Edition. I'll have to get a new certificate as the Color and Interior are wrong - they said that they've reused codes and this is somewhat common error, but they'd correct and get it back to me right away. Anyway, here's the certificate plus a bonus photo of the car with its new Cups! Original wheels have been wrapped in plastic and stored. Also, a special thanks to Rixter for his assistance!

Thanks Mac, I'm really enjoying 928 ownership so far. I just ordered a kings ransom in hoses and other rubber bits to replace. Next item on the agenda is to spring for my Rennlist membership. I have had so many questions and issues resolved by using the search function. Time to stop freeloading.

Welcome to the Weissach Club. I have truely enjoyed mine. Some work but great fun. I also have the orginal wheels but put newer one's on. I just think it looks better.
This is a great forum and well worth the membership.

Thanks Parker - looks like we have twins. I had originally. bought 18" turbo twist knockoffs, but I wound up trading them for the 17" cups on the car now. The 18" Twists looked fantastic, but the ride was too harsh for my taste.

Rob,
glad to see it's definately a Weissach, given the information they gave me it doesn't surprise me 1 bit they messed up the CoA.. now you just need to find a set of luggage
