1994 Lotus Esprit S4s for me please. Can find them for roughly 34k to 42k. Other choice would be Mercedes CLK 430 which seems like a nice daily driver. It will take losing my job however to sell my '89GT and when I get recalled, I will go looking for a GTS.

Old Avanti, or a Jensen Interceptor.
A real hoot would be a late 60's, Mopar police Interceptor 440/6 pack... I liked the big car ride, with that awsome big block torque.

Bergstrm,
I had a 67 Towncar, much like that one. 462ci V8, black on black, leather power seats, power everything. OH and of course suicide doors. I saw that Lincoln had a prototype of a car to be released soon that looks vers similar, and has the suicide doors but with no A pillar. It looked great and I can't wait to see the production model.

There really is no car that gets me as excited as the 928. But there are a few I think stand out from the crowd, and I would consider them if I could not afford to own and/or keep a 928:

Audi TT Coupe (if I still had an additional practical car)

Mercedes Sportscoupe C320 (if I could only have one car)

Other normal ones that I like, depending on budget and location:

Renault Megane turbo diesel (not in US - this is what I would most likely drive, if I was living in Europe!)

VW Beetle (still cute)

Mini (a little over the top, but everyone tells me they are a blast)

Ford Focus ZX-3 or ZX-5 (I'd have to drive one, but they are very popular in Germany and have won many comparison tests. The ZX-versions are closer to the European specs than the cheapo Focus models here in the US)

VW Golf GTI V6, or turbo diesel

Seat Leon (not in US)

Audi A4 or A6, possibly as wagon

Mercedes C or E Class, possibly as wagon

Peugeot Coupe by Pininfarina (I think it's called 406 - also not in the US)

Infinity G35 Coupe (if only the dash would be nicer!)

Porsche Carrera or Carrera 4 Coupe (with a full Porsche Exclusive custom interior - otherwise I'd rather keep the 928)

Definitely NOT making my list:

Any SUV with a boxy look and solid axles, or the looks of a fast vacuum cleaner... ;-)

Anything that is not well designed down to the details and/or not well made.

Been Christmas in March for me. Sold my '89 GT many months ago to another lister. Then I just had my 928 replacment delivered today. A Vintage 550RS Spyder:1300 lbs with 186 hp=fun. Also, in a complete act of spontanaity, I traded my Pantera and Harley for a ferrari 512BB that just had a complete engine/trans rebuild from Norwoods and a bare metal respray. Still needs a few trim pieces re-assembled to complete. Always wanted to try a 12cyl Ferrrari. Miss the 928, but still having fun. F-150 4x4. Only if it's got a lift kit, and the 351.

Ford Ranger, Chevy S-10, 4x4, largest V-6 possible. I forget the cins.

Mitisu Eclipse

C3 vette. Cool looking car, even if it isn't so good. Does look more than a bit dated though, I don't care.

My bizzare list for everyone's amusement:

Delorean
'85 RX-7 Turbo (had one and wow)
12 cyl XJS
Mid '80s 450 SL
late 70's Toyota Landcruiser
240Z
Saab 900 Turbo
Dodge Challenger
70's GTO

I wouldn't trade the shark for any 2 of them though.

Mitch I like the DeLoreans too-

Friend of my father had one. I rode in it a few times...the gull wing doors were a hoot. These cars were NOT fast-the facination comes from the way other people react. I just like the way they look...

The stainless steel bodywork is actually a big problem. Sure, you never need to wax it [most owners do however], and scratches can be repaired with a Scotch-Brite pad, but if you ever have an accident...it is nearly impossible to repair. You can try to rebend the metal, but then there is a mark that you cannot remove. You cannot use filler [bondo] on these either...so you are forced to paint the car....which destroys its value. As to replacement panels....good luck!

Nissan 350Z, or even the earlier Zs. Just like the way they look. BMW M5, too. There just happen to be a 2003 M5 and 2003 Infinit G35(same as 350Z) in my garage at work....guess that's where my non-existent bonus this year went.

I've owned a 78 and 83HE Jaguar XJS...still like them and the ride is to die for, and they keep turning heads.
A BMW 850i or 750iL would be highly desirable, particuarly the 850i.
The Citroen XM has been one of those cars you would by because it the last of the eccentric Citroens...I've owned 2400 Pallas and BXs in the past and the height adjuster is always agreat party trick...
Just sold my XJ40 Jaguar Sovereign which is a pleasure to drive but things fall apart around you and then you feel like you should be 20 years older to drive one of these things.
I could go on but the 'normal' cars I'd like to or have owned are'nt that exciting......but when you own a 928 that's excitement enough.

Hey guys,
I've had very bad luck finding people (other than on here) who appreciate the beauty of the 928

I come from a die hard Porsche fanatic family...and they all agree (except me of course) the 928 is one ugly car !!!!! Outnumbered, heartbroken and desperate, I turned to my neighbors, friends, and relatives for much needed appreciation for the beauty of the shark, and I was shocked to learn that everyone shared their opinion... that was also when I learned that my girlfriend truly meant all the comments on how unattractive the 928 was to her...and it wasn't just for teasing me. Now I must admit my 911 is a head turner and does attract a lot of attention, but unfortunately most people don't even notice a 928 in the street unless it is in IMMACULATE condition or fitted with an RMB...unlike my friend's oil leaking, sewing machine sounding 911 old clunker that seems to do it effortlessly There ARE many flavors of ice cream, but I think us shark owners have a peculiar (or is it selective?) taste.

Now back to the subject at hand:

Somewhat "normal" affordable or same price range cars as the 928:

Audi Quattro Sport (Euro mid 80's)
Lancia Stratos
BMW M6 Alpina (Euro)
Opel Manta 400
BMW 2002 Turbo
Mercedes 500 SEC

Not so normal:

Porsche 959
Mercedes SLK
BMW M1
DeTomaso Pantera
Lamborghini Countach
Ford GT40
Renault 5 Turbo 2 Koening
Ferrari 250 GTO
Lamborghini Miura
Aston Martin Vantage
Maserati Khamsin

Tarek- [Do you have a son named Leonard Nimoy?]don't be ashamed about your "odd" family- I have one too. The math of my family:

1. A grandfather who fathered 15 children that we know of; cool!- 10 were with my grandma...

2. An aunt who divorced her husband and became a lesbian truck driver at the age of 47. There's no such thing as a quiet truck stop for her...

3. A second cousin who was a famous musician [after his parents divorced in 1974, he came with his mom on their way to North Carolina and stayed with us for a night. Since he was only a year younger than me, he slept on a cot in my room. We watched big time wrestling and played legos until 2 AM-I saw his mother crying at the kitchen table in a fog of cigarette smoke], and who later killed himself.

4. A brother who worked for another famous musician at his studio in New Orleans. The musician in question has extremely good taste in cars [silver 993 turbo], and equal taste in boys [he hit on me while I was there.... ].

5. An uncle that went to Vietnam as a doctor of medicine and came back as a doctor of vodka. And weed. He died a ditch-digger...when he worked.

6. Several bible-thumping Uncles in Western North Carolina that are involved in the amateur spirits industry. Some of the products of their hobbies are 40 proof-

[-they keep the 90 proof stuff for the cockfights-]

7. A mother that I cannot describe. Words do not convey sufficiently the reality... Really, you'd have to be around this female for 10 minutes to understand what I am talking about.

8. Me- an airline pilot with a body that for some reason attracts the wrong sort of pornographers and who despite his lack of mechanical acumen and qualifications somehow manages to pull apart major assemblies and keep his odd not-made-for-the-United States 928S2 on the road.

So...if your family doesn't like your car...well then do like me and realize that diversity is a virtue!

[I had a "pride strip" [rainbow sticker] on the back of my car a few years ago just for this reason!]

Tarek…

Sounds like your relatives/friends/girlfriend go for what’s safe…no outside the box thinking…sad…sad…sad…true conformist indeed.

Normy,

I couldn’t agree more, diversity is a virtue to the third degree. Nothing like being a non-conformist engulfed by a world of narcissistic conformist babble to make a man to drink.

That’s one of the many things I like about my shark…not everyone likes it or drives it…just perfect for where I live…I can always spot my 928 from a distance amongst all the BMW’s, 911’s, Jag’s and God who knows what else.

Gee…no snobs in Hollywierd!

I love almost all cars. But I'd have to say. I've had an orange 69 Corvette convertible 4 spd for about 15yrs w/ a very high strung 454 that puts a smile on my face every time I start it and drive it. I also love 76 Datsun 280Z's. I had a few and they're a blast to drive. Also, I wish to have a 98 & up Jag XJR some day.
