keyless entry
I have an '82 US automatic, and have had problems with the door locks. As it stands right now, I lock and unlock my car via the passenger side door. I'm thinking of having a keyless entry installed. The local electronics place/stereo shop quoted me a price of approximately $300.00 parts and labor. How does that sound? Is there anyone with experience in this area? Thanks....Larry
Before I even had the title on my car transferred to me, I had an alarm installed in it for $400 with labor, and keyless entry was included. $300 for just keyless is pretty dang high I think! You could get an alarm off of ebay and then take it to a GOOD shop, NOT Car Toys, they just F things up, and have them do all the wiring. Better deal in the end. Get one of these and have them wire in keyless (obviously a different shop) if it doesn't already have it. Its in my opinion, the best alarm for the money, and maybe the best alarm period! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3013218476&category=14934
Larry,
I have the same problem. Does the key just spin around in the lock?
The problem is that a little piece on the back of the lock is broken off, so it no longer engages the arm which locks and unlocks.
I recently had my locks into a locksmith, and he said that he didn't have the parts to fix it. A short term solution would be to swap the passenger and driver side locks. Not hard at all. You just remove a bolt in the doorjamb, and then slide them out carefully. The one that still works you have to unhook a press in ball and socket joint to get it all the way out.
Of course if there is a difference in model years this won't be exactly right.

Larry,
I made that year ago, including closing of the windows, with a Ungo system - These system has worked great for 7 years now.
If you only want remote control of the door lock, you can do it relatively easy and inexpensive.

I have a Commando KE30, but have not installed it as yet. (Garage is TOOOO cold.) As I recall when I bought it the price was around $44.99 plus $6.80 UPS. It has the ability to add alarm and lights, etc to it. The telephone number is: 1-800-780-1409.
