Post '78 manual trans vs. '83

I found a rebuilt '78 trans that I think will fit in my '83. Are there any disadvantages to installing a rebuilt '78 trans in my '83?
An advantage I heard is that the '78 has shorter gear ratios and a higher final drive ratio, thus providing better acceleration at the expense of gas mileage and top speed.
Any thoughts?

I don't kow for sure whether or not it will mount on the crossmember OK but the trans and driveshaft lengths are different on the older trans so it would have to be used with a matching torque tube. I believe this change came mid '80 MY

Now that I checked the manual, it shows that in MY 80 the G28.05 was moved forward 30mm and has a longer driveshaft. So, in effect, the '78 will probably not fit in my '83. However, the specs show that the final drive ratio 2.7 vs. 2.2 on my '83.

I believe the rear gears could be swapped between these units however the '83 should have a steeper set of gears so you might end up with a granny-gear for 1st.
