Default Sold the Chevelle for funds for the 928

I am not sure if I am having a bad day or a good day. I just sold the 70 SS 454 Chevelle, mainly to have funds to finish the work on the 928.

I will no longer have a old school hot rod. (carbs and nitrous)

I could not think of any one that I would rather have had this car than Matt or John, and John got it.

John has wanted this car since the first time I let him drive it at the gun club some 7-8 years ago when he was still a teenager.

He (me) is going to do the things that I never had the nerve to do to it, stand alone digital multi port injection and a Richmond six speed.

Hell, he may even get it into the double digits on fuel mileage with these changes.

But time goes on i guess and it was not going to be driven by me any more.

It actually turned out to not be that big a loss, over the years I had put a little over $55,000 in it and I got 30, 000 out of it, that is a little less than a hundred a month. Which is not bad for a car that is able to light the tires at 70 mph.

I needed the space and the money to finish the restoration and possible supercharging of the 928, I will still be sad to see it drive away.

Folks that are not car people will not understand the sadness of seeing one of your baby's being abused by some one else, think I will go have a drink.

I feel for you blown 87 But look at it this way; now you can devote all your attention to the most important car in your stable and BOY is it better for you to see someone you know take care of your old pride and joy (?)

Just to take your mind of the Chevy for a while, what about turbocharging your S4 ? That will keep you busy for a coupple of hour won`t it ? Maybe combine that with a drink ?

BTW, I love your avatar

I do know your pain. The only thing worse is having a '68 Mustang that you fully restored that also was owned by the casting director of the movie Bullitt which Steve Mcqueen personaly picked out at the dealership and drove around during of the filming of the movie to only have it stolen days after you get it painted.
Now that you have some extra money supercharge it!

It was time for it to go, it will still be here for a while as we are doing the mods on it.

One thing that always strikes me when I drive one of these old cars is how badly they handle.

Holy Moly Greg.

You've been bitten bad by the Shark. I'd figured this out already when I saw your thread on the GTS rear quarters. But, I didn't know until now just how deeply.

Blown 87,
Sorry to hear about selling the 70 SS - that is a great car! I had a 69 chevelle right out of high school and it was my favorite car of all time - until we got the 928. I hated to see mine go - although it was nothing compared to the 70 SS. The good news is there will be a better, stronger 928 out there when you're done with the investment in your shark. I'm interested in what you decide to do for the upgrade.

Yea, I guess I did get bitten.

In my line of work I get to drive a lot of really nice cars, so I know what it takes to make a great car.

The 87 is not overly complex and is a lot of car, no air bags and such.

I feel very secure driving it, much more so than I do in a 911, or my Corvette mostly because I am not that great a driver.

It is going to a great home and I will be doing all the work on it so I still will get to drive it, hell keep it for the weekend if I wanted to from time to time.

Yep, that was in the agreement along with first refusal if it ever come up for sale at the same price.

So I guess John and I both are getting what we want.

here is a partial list of mods on the Chevelle that I made for John, if any body is interested in it.

1970 SS Chevelle
Candy Apple red
468 (.60 over 454) splayed 4 bolt
Merlin heads, polished and ported by Racing Head service with Merlin valve covers, it was featured in the Racing Head Service catalog.
Comp 290H cam and lifters
Comp steel roller rockers
Edlebrock Performer RPM manafold , port matched to intake
Holley 850 double pumper, quick change jets, front and rear, rear metering block, 50CC pumps front and rear
Performance distributor
Edlebrock water pump
four core radator
MSD 6Al ignition box
MSD blaster coil
MSD wires, with heat wrap
MSD Multi step retard with RPM limiter
Accel shorty plugs
Custom hand built wire seperators and holders
Hooker super comps
2.5 inch exausht, Magnaflows, h-pipe
Hamburger oil pan
non twist forged crank
Shot peended and blue printed rods
Block has been debured and epoxed on the inside
2.5 horse power tiltson mini starter
forged pistons, moly rings
block heater, so it seldom had had a cold start.
This engine has about 8,000 miles on it since the last rebuild.
AutoMeter mechanical water temp, oil temp, oil pressure, fuel pressue, and trans temp gauges, monster tach with memory
Turbo 400, custom TCI 9 inch convetor with anti ballon plates, kevlar bands, roller sprags, special high perfomance drums ( holds a extra plate and friction disk) etc.
Thousands of dollars worth of A-N stainless braded lines.
high capicty TCI trans pan

Remote oil filter with thermastatic valve for oil cooler
Trans cooler
dual electric fans with thermastatic control
120 amp single wire alternator
headlamps are Hella "European Flat lens", the realys have been relayed, this is one of the most impressive lighting system that I have ever seen on a car, the four headlamps on this 70 are set up to all come on when high beam is selected, I have measured it at 48 amps plus. It will illumate interste highway signs at up to 2 miles.
has the orginal wheels which have been redone.
rechromed bumpers.
I have repalced almost all of the rubber on the car including the window felts.
This is a Very sharp car and it is very,VERY fast.
I had this engine built as a N2O motor, but it has never been sprayed or hooked up to N2O, solinoids and plates are installed as a spacer, but have never been wired up on this car, nor has a bottle been installed or fuel lines.
It has a sump on the tank
The only thing from stock are the engine, trans, paint and power steering and add on gauges
This car was done professonaly.

It was built at the Lakewood Georgia GM plant, sold by Nalley Chevrolet in Atlanta, to the best of my knowledge I am the third owner of this car.

It is unusual for a true SS car as it has a bench front seat and the shifter is on the column.

I hope that when you have it all done (by SITM 2008 right? ) that it exceeds your expectations.

Wow! I remember when I sold my old 82 928 I got very emotional because of all the time (not money) I had invested in it. It felt a part of me was leaving. I can only imagine why you're feeling based on that list. But I can say you will love your 928 when it's done. Then it's time to go and drive the **** out of it.

I also see the SCer is on the table for the future... NICE! It'll be one of the best decisions you'll ever make. It was for me.

I hope so Dave, I found out today that the painter at my friends body shop that was going to spray the car and who I had all ready given him a rather large bonus on top of all ready prepaying for the paint job............................long story but they will finish it and it will look fine, I was just a bit pissed that he left.

The heads left for the machine shop today, still trying to figure out how far to go with the motor rebuild, so I will be thank full for any help.

I will be asking a lot of questions on the motor rebuild part.
