Hi All - I am finally selling my 1987 928-S4. I've got an auction running on Ebay right now, and I'd much rather see it go to a Rennlist member. I've got almost $24k into this car since November of 2001 - and honestly, I'm taking a serious financial loss on the car. All advertising and salesmanship aside - this is an exceptional 928-S4 both in terms of condition and all the maintenance, repairs and updates that I've put into it. It needs nothing. The work that has been done to it should ensure that it needs no major items for a long time to come.
The one and only thing that I know about that needs attention is the rear hatch electric motor mechanism. The motor itself works fine but it doesn't fully release. I think it needs an adjustment. I've been using the key rather than spend the extra $ to fix it. This is the ONLY thing I know that is wrong.
Kids going to college is forcing the sale of this car. It has been a pleasure to own, drive and appreciate.
If you are a Rennlist member, and are interested, I'd love to talk to you about it. This car is one that should go to a 928 enthusiast - it truly is that special 928-S4. If you've been looking for one that inspires you to ownership due to its beautiful condition and tight performance and mechanical condition, this is the ONE you have been waiting for.
A list of all the repairs, maintenance, service and upgrades are on my auction listing.

I have reserved the right to end the auction early, if the right offer should come along.
I live in Southern, New Hampshire. Shipping can be arranged at your expense.
Thank you, and good luck to all of you and thanks for all your advice with the car over the past 18 months. <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />

Rob... that's a beautiful 928. Very sharp. Lotsa maintenance. Great ad. But... there's no picture of the engine. That's the first thing I look for. I'm not interested in an S4 (too many valves) but hope you do well.
Geez. 4 kids headed for college. What were you thinking? And I thought I had chaos at my house. My wife looked at me after two and said:
"That's it. Period."
She rev-limits in all sorts of ways.

Rob:
It is sad to hear you have to part with this beautiful car. The sadest thing, however, is that giving up the car and all you put into it, is probably going to cost you more in the long run than keeping the car as it is (providing you wouldnot keep spending on upgrades and not drive it every day).
Unfortunately, few people are willing to pay extra for repairs and upgrades that had been done - but more people pay less, if it hasn't been done.
I don't envy you right now. But as they say "A man's got to do what he's got to do." Best of luck to you and your offspring!

Nicole - while you are right about what people are willing and not willing to pay for, I think keeping the car, if experience has taught me anything, will prove to be a more expensive proposition. While the 928 is a well engineered automobile from a drivers perspective, in my opinion, from a service perspective, it is not well engineered at all. The simplest things to repair on a 928 are expensive to have repaired both in terms of labor and parts. This fact, more than any other, has driven me to sell it. I'm not interested in buying the service manuals and doing the work myself. I simply don't have the time, energy or interest.

One more thing.. if I don't get the money I'm looking for for my 928.. I won't be selling it.
I just won't bother, and I'll deal with the hardship. The car is worth every last nickel I am selling it for, and many more - so - it should bring the price.

Bummer you have to sell Rob! Really nice looking car. I have the exact same one myself (blk/blk 87S4,same wheels, stock windshield antennae though). Btw, I assume the drive/passenger airbag claim in the ebay ad is a typo, correct? That option wasn't availbable in '87.

Yes Dave - that was a typo... I caught that after I submitted the ad, and once you put stuff into an ad, ebay makes it hard to go back and change it. So, no airbag.
Thanks for the kind words..
