Default Is "double door-locking" normal on a 928?

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Whenever I start my 1984 928, the automatic door locks engage TWICE.
1. When I first move the ignition key to position 1, the doors lock.
2. But when I continue to position 3 (turn the engine over) and release after the engine has started, the auto-door locks engage again...UNLOCKING the doors!

If I want to lock the doors with the engine started, I have to lock the doors again!

Is this normal? Or an electrical gremlin? Ive checked the boards as well as the owners manual, and nothing found on this.

Im thinking perhaps the previous owner screwed around with the electricals when he installed aftermarket radio and alarm system.

Thanks for your help.

Locks should not lock with the ignition on , on the OB's at least.

This was never standard behaviour - no locking at all should happen without the key, door post, door **** or central lock button being activated.

That it does means you have an aftermarket system of some kind installed - do you have a KE system with the alarm? You should be able to disable this behaviour if you wish. Also you should be able to fix it by swapping what wire goes to the module. Somebody used the X-Bus rather than ignition which is causing your problem.

The X-bus goes on with accessories & ignition but off during starting and back on when the starter stops... not a good replacement for an ignition connection in this case.

On my '86.5, I have a red button in the console which locks both doors when I push it when the key is on. Occasionally, it will have a mind of its own and lock after I open and shut the door when the engine is running. For that unfortunate happening, I carry two keys: one for the ignition and one to unlock the door if I am locked out while the engine is running. It has already happened once.

Check the two fuses behind the main fuse/relay board. They can cause this type of problem.

Hi Rog100,
Thanks for your suggestion.
Are these 2 fuses "behind" the fuse/relay board really "behind" it? How do I get at them? I crawled in there today, and couldnt find the 2 fuses "around" the board, so do I have to actually pull the board somehow to look behind it?
Thanks! Im quite excited to find these, Im hoping this works.
Cheers.

You have to loosen it and tip it forward - that should be enough to locate them - they are inline fuseholders on the wires - they are not fixed so can move around a bit...

They are usually really behind the panel - bit of an afterthought on these - eventually got moved elsewhere.

Limo driver mantra........... can be applied to 928, when you get out of the car with the engine running..... ALWAYS.. ALWAYS. ALWAYS..... open the window.
Carrying a spare key helps, lets see wheres a good place to hide a key in a 928???.......... Lets leave that one for the owner

Darn, I found the 2 fuses behind the board, and was hoping they would be blown...but unfortunatley they are intact.
Looks like its probably an unwanted reaction from an aftermarket install of something or other. Hmmm
