Cool

-I'm getting slowly but surely in the "ed ruiz" mode these days where I really don't think I have anything to prove.

Gawd- am I getting old? I'm 37-

No, perhaps it has to do with the increasing percentage of miles that the significant other rides with me in the car. That and despite the fact that I like the Mustang's cheap and fast package, I'm not impressed by these cars.

-I'd rather have an SLK.

YEAH buddy! I've bar-bee-friggin- CUED a few notable road-sweeties in my time with '85 #1526...Corvette C5's and C4's, Buick GN's [stock....], and numerous Mustangs and supercharged Grand Prix. Oh what the hell- some 40-something in a Jaguar XK8 came after me on I-95 the other day.

-I bet he doesn't race Porsche's anymore!

Thats not the point of these cars! Its fun to do, but I guess it amounts to shooting fish in a barrel...

Ahh,

But you see I didn't race anybody!
As a matter of fact, the 'stang was my mule on this one since the police radar is going to ping him first.
I'm not really into racing on city streets. If I was, I would have pulled up alongside him instead of behind.
That would have given me about 300' after the light before my lane would merge into his and that wasn't worth it. It would have been a game of chicken at that point and I wasn't interested.
I just wanted to see how much giddy-up a car that was 18 years my 928's junior could handle itself that's all.

BTW - I'm 38 and I never want to sit on the porch wonderin' if I shoulda smoked some Ford that day wwwwayyy back in 2003.......

Bernie:
You may be 38, but you sound more like 8. Apparently, you think you have something to prove to someone. Why, are you that insecure?

I just hope that when that day comes, you won't be sitting on the porch wondering "if I hadn't street raced would that other innocent bystander still be alive?" Hey, it has happened!

Well, I for one can see myself doing some walker racing when that time comes. Wonder if anybody makes a performance chip for one of those Rascal electric things for people who can't walk anymore?

You've got me all wrong. I have driven my 928s at speeds that approach those routinely done on the Autobahn, not to mention taking corners at the limits of adhesion. However, I did it all legally, and with as much safety as can be expected on a closed circuit track. Moreover, everyone participating or spectating were aware of the risks, and signed waivers to that effect.

When was the last street race you participated in where everyone that could be affected - sign a waiver?

When my porch sitting day comes, I won't have any regrets about my days behind the wheel of my 928s. YMMV.

Ah,
I'm just yankin' your chain Ed.

Fact of the matter is, I don't go looking for someone to race AT ALL!
I only drive my shark once or twice a week at most. I could count on well both hands, how many times I dropped the hammer against someone in my history of driving and it was never full on. More like a squirt. I am also accident free in 22 years of driving.

This particular occasion had 2 miles of completely open country road with absolutely no other bystanders outside of fields and cows!

It wasn't even a race, it was a cat / mouse run. I made no attempt to overtake the stang even though I had clear road and could have accomplished that feat easily.

Just havin' some fun

Glad you had a good time. I'm also glad to read that you've been lucky. All it takes is one little error, and perhaps your record would not be so good. It doesn't even have to be your error, as you don't know what the other driver's skills are, nor the condition of his/her car, nor whether some varmint will dart across the road just in front of you. :^(

For your sake, your family's sake and for the sake of your 928, I Hope your luck holds out. YMMV.
