Post Seafoam

I searched the archives on this one and only had two hits. I put Seafoam (Injector, Carburetor, engine cleaner) in my gas tank today to keep the system clean. Anyone out there had good or bad results with this? I used to run it in my Volvo and seemed to work good.

Personally, I don't put anything into the engine of my Porsche that Porsche does not recommend or endorse. Currently the only injector cleaner I use (and is endorsed/recommended by Porsche) is Chevron's Techron. I believe there may even be a few others but, I don't ever recall seeing "SEAFOAM" on any list I have seen.

I sure hope that seafoam stuff does not start bubbling out of your exhaust or something. If you start along this track your next additive may be something like Marvel Mystery Oil!

I used seafoam to clean some injectors, but I removed the injectors and flowed them with the seafoam. It seemed to work well. I highly doubt it would cause issues running it through the tank.

I would not put it in with the engine oil, as it thins the oil out....use Rislone for that.

I agree with Pat as far as the Porsche recommended issue goes. Most people think about how fuel system cleaners will clean up the fuel injectors, valve deposits, etc....It's what happens after it enters the cylinder and is burned that is important also. Especially with Aluminum cylinders and coated pistons. The stuff has to be compatible with these.

Thanks guys. I was afraid that 20 people would start screaming "Drain you tank now!" It is not making a difference in performance yet. I was not having any major problems, just seeing if it would make it run perfect. I will run this tank out.

I used it in my non-Porsche daily driver and it did smooth out the idle a noticeable amount after about half a tank was used.

Cool

Y'all need to do searches about my "Rough Running" threads...

My '85 S2 has a problem in that it tends to miss at high manifold pressures. That is, wide open throttles at less than redline.

The car will seemingly run in 6-7 cylinders for a few seconds when I hammer on it. This seems to drop horsepower in half!

I've changed most of the ignition components, and had the car hooked up the the infamous "hammer", or suitcase-based injection computer to no avail. Everything is working right.

I know what is wrong: I've one or two bad injectors.

Well, they are soon to be rebuilt. In the meantime, I have some startling discoveries: First of all, adding methanol solved the problem for a while. Then adding Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer solved the problem, along with octane booster. Then...the other day, I decided to drive 225 miles to south Florida, so I put cheap non-Chevron gas in the car.

GOOD lord the car ran like the proverbial "raped-ape" on the way to South Beach!

BAHHHH! Changing chemicals seems to be the thing. I need to rebuild the injectors....and I suspect that if you are having the same symptoms, then it is likely that you need this too! I'm sending my stuff to Cruzinperformance.com in Wisconsin....he seems to be pretty much recommended here abouts.

Normy!

I do not run Chevron in my 996 /993/928 with each fill. I do so ever three or four fill ups and a bottle of Techron one a month. In between I may use 76, Texaco, and sometimes even ARCO (but ARCO is about as cheap as I will get in fuel). During the moments when I run these different fuels it appears the fuel additives they put in seem to give my cars a little life. The car does not run any faster (obvilously) but it seems to get a little pep. Stange...huh?
