Just shooting the bull around the conf table at work today and we started talking about cars. I mentioned the LT-1 retrofitted 928s around and we wondered if a Viper V-10 would fit in there?
Any ideas? I know the V-10 is a long engine, but our V8s have very large blocks anyway. Would it fit?

The V-10 in my Ram 4X4 fits in there quite nicely, thank you very much. <img src="graemlins/r.gif" border="0" alt="[king]" /> and I don't even have to find a #10 sky-hook to suspend the thing from if I need to change the motor-mounts <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> . On the other hand, I doubt that I'd keep up to Rich's '85 5-speed like I can with my '86 P-car!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> but I bet I could push him into the ditch <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

Actually, the Cayenne thing was what got it started. I was looking at some pics of the Viper V-10 and it's huge. Not sure it would fit.
I did see a 928 for sale that had a 4.3 Vortec V6 in it. Not sure what the point was though....

On the subject of the Cayenne. Reading an article in Excellence about the Pikes peak hill climb. The winner drove a GT2 an hes probably going to get a cayenne in the coming yrs as well and run in the truck category! That would be a riot to watch that thing scream up there!

I can imagine we will be seeing these show up in hill climbs, Paris/Dakar type races.
Now if I absolutely had to do an engine swap in a 928, I would look for an M5 engine. <img src="graemlins/icon107.gif" border="0" alt="[icon107]" />

V-10 is somewhere around 8 liters. Purty big.
If you want to put some Mopar under the hood you might think of this.

The only problem with the Mopar motor is that it's 16 H.P. LESS than the S4's, now if your going to do it, try this one with 465 H.P. and save 200 LBS. to boot.

How about a GM "Copperhead" crate engine in a 928? I saw part of a Hot Rod TV show (not sure which one) on Speed the other day, and this motor is unbelievable. Something like 527 cubic inches, 640 HP, 670 ft/lbs. torque. Whew! It looked huge, but then again so do most engines when they're not in the car.

Don't forget if your updating the motor to the ones you talked about you'll want to update the driveline too. You'll want to replace the transaxle with a munci 4 speed and a ford 9" rear end.

If you wanna stay German, how 'bout the new W-12 engine going into the Phaeton (450 hp) and its twin turbo cousin going into the Bentley Continental GT (550 hp, 650+ tq). Though I expect the latter of those engines to cost more than most of our cars are worth. Someone did a nice photoshop drop in a couple weeks ago to show the visual effect.
On that note, my brother knows someone who claims to have put a Rolls Royce engine into his Honda Accord. I'm not waiting with baited breath to see pictures of it.
