Default Worth bringing over a 928 GTS

Would it be worth the effort to bring my GTS to the States and get it federalize (which would cost $10,000.00 plus)? Model year 92, stick shift, 100,0000 miles, custom "moonroof", etc. What would such a car worth?

Advantages: comfortable drive, great looks.
Disadvantages: somewhat slow – holding up fast moving traffic on an unrestricted Autobahn lane, high oil consumption when going at a high Autobahn speed.

Thanks.

If you sell it and then try to replicate it here in the states will it cost 10k? I say bring it over.

Bring it over and sell it in Canada. We don't have as many federalization issues here. I might even be interested

There are very few stretches of the autobahn where you can actually go over 150mph. Doing 180 and coming up on a yahoo going 120 in the fast lane is like doing 60 and coming up on a stalled car in the fast lane and trying to stop, except at 180 your car handles like crap when you slam the breaks or try a quick flick to the other lane.

The autobahn is just to crowded in most parts to do the legendary top speed runs people brag about.

You can get a decent GTS from $20K up to 30K. Unless you're getting it for $10K or less it wouldn't be worth it IMO. Plus the moon roof detracts from value as well as the steering wheel. I dog the all black color theme with the green stripe. Looks like a Polizei undercover car.

Yeah.. I'd say take your losses and run... and I'd be happy to ease your suffering by giving you a couple of thousand for it..

Bring it over - we need more GTS's in the states!

First time I've heard someone say a GTS is 'somewhat slow.' Take a drive in a stock US 928S....wait a minute, that's what I just bought. Oh well, that's what superchargers are for.

I would say its not worth it....you'd be better off selling it and buying one that is already here!

It is slow on the autobahn....
Try driving it on Kalifornia "freeways" in Los Angeles or San Francisco or even Blythe. You don't know what "slow" is until you've experienced our "freeways".
If you want to go crazy, try driving it from Sacramento to Los Angeles on I-5. Straight road most of the way, many stretches in the middle of nowhere without cross traffic, and you're stuck behind a 20 car cluster f*** left lane train of SUVs full of soccer moms and idiots thinking they are self appointed to regulate the flow of traffic for the whole world. Try parts of Utah that offer straight empty roads as far as you can not only see, but imagine, with no traffic at all but with a rookie HP bear parked behind a bush in the middle of that expanse of road with a radar gun saving the world from agility, efficiency, self reliance, and happiness. And you think you know what "slow" is. Sheesh!! If you think your car is slow for the autobahn but this country will offer more opportunity for using it to its fullest, you had better bring a stash of cash, a Valentine One and a card with my phone number on it.

Glad I've only got a GT, think how embarrassed I'd be holding up traffic in my GTS...

I got the joke about "slow"... It's not! Most of today's cars are limited to 155 mph, so it takes one of relatively few exotics to beat the 928 on the Autobahn.

The steering wheel in this car scares me to death. Is that TÜV approved? If so, I wonder what that tester smoked that day. You'd proably have to reactivate the airbag system to get the car federalized here in the US.

There are not that many manual GTS models available here in the US. There is only one other 92 model - an automatic imported into Texas. The cost was more in the area of $15k - and that was about five years ago.

Yours looks heavily modified, which means it would not be worth top dollar in the US after the conversion.

Tell us some more about the "custom moonroof" - does it still open, and how was it made? More pics would be interesting.

So it's safety features are designed for people who wear helmets... Now the metal spokes make sense.

You sure would struggle to find something as nice and exotic over here for $10,000. Very nice looking 928!

I'd bring it, evil steering wheel and all
