Track day was awesome!! Sorry more of you couldn't enjoy that part of it!! The stepson performed flawlessly while the driver (me) made some critical errors. ( I spun it and hence my new name will be Drift-King according to Sterling)

Thanks so much to Rob for riding with me on the last session at the track. His knowledge of the track and the ability to impart that knowledge to me during that session made for a great appreciation of the apex and track out.

The drive through the country side on Saturday was spirited to say the least. Fantastic roads, triple digit speeds for extended periods, and the knowledge that these cars were built for just this kind of driving.
I drove the '89 on the Saturday drive.

Thanks to Jim M. for navigating on the Saturday drive. Great Job as always!!

Thanks to Roger Tyson and 928RUS as well as 928OC for sponsoring the event.

I said this last year and I'll say it again this year: It was the most fun I have ever had with my clothes on!!

Troy, fantastic video. I added it to my Myspace page. Great job.

Sorry this is so late in posting about 3rd coast. I had an absolute blast. This being my 2nd, 3rd Coast gathering I don't have many to compare it to but I do have to say, this one gave me the best idea on what my '88 needs as far as road worthiness and basic updates to keep it in the shape it needs.

I showed up at Rogers house on Friday morning around 9am. Troy was there and Ed followed shortly. We spent a few minutes helping Rog get the GTS ready for the road (little did I know he was going to wash his after we left) and three of us headed out to Motor Sports Ranch for our Friday track day.

We met Rob and Karen at the Bigbendvilla.com and that is where the weekend started. The club house at MSR rented us fire suits/helmuts for those that didn't have those on hand, were very happy to see us out there. As we drove through the paddock area to Robs villa we passed several garages that held a few cars that kept my attention. Mazda formula's, Porsche Cup cars, Ferrari's, and a few other autos that looked really damn fast. This is a 1st class operation with everything a DE person could need.

Rob and Ed gave us basic instruction on the track, track in/apex/track out's, safty regulations and what we should and should not do. On hand were several guys that had run the track and what I would consider "Pro's" at MSR who gave us pointers on certain parts of the course, what we should expect on the camber/off camber turns and where the best places to make the best times where. In between sessions (20 minutes each) we met at the club house to ask questions and get advice. The track sessions were fantastic and I learned that I NEED SHOCKS. I also learned that a 928 can do drifting very well, just not supposed to do that there. John (soontobered) learned that spinning is fun. I'm sure he was thinking that what he was doing was "swinging" but we got him straight on that.

We also found out 1st hand what a "vulture" was, as Docs car siezed and everyone wanted his GT heads/cams. This sucks, I needed a partner on my cam cover gaskets tech session. We are still waiting to find out what happened there.

Ed took me out in his car.............wait........Ed took Justin (who?) in his car first and he came out like a teenage girl wet for the 1st time and was almost sick. I went out and wow. Ed Hughes can drive a car............. The best way to describe the way Ed drove his '91 928 was the conversation after the last session. A guy in a newer Carrera S said "Damn, that thing is fast" (talking about Ed's '91 S4). We were all over him, not just wanting to pass, but able to. When Ed mentioned that it was stock, and 15 years old, the guy was really impressed. That was when I realized my '88 needed shocks.

Track time was fantastic and when it was over, we gathered at Robs place to chitchat and drink all of his beer then mosey over to the hotel for check in, naps, and getting ready for dinner. Skipping the dinner part............. We ended up in the hotel parking lot and had wine, more chit chat, beer, and more wine.

Skip to Saturday, a bit hung over and we did breakfast at the hotel, gathered for the drivers meeting, lined up for our big run through the country side. Rules were established, cars were lined up and off we headed out at 10am.

The drive was great, although a bit long for some, there were great stretches of triple digit speeds and numerous curves to test the cars. A great lunch at a BBQ place where we all left feeling like it was time for a nap. Another great couple of hours of driving and then we repeated the process of Friday night with singing in the parking lot with Rog and Chuck headlining. (I've been forbidden to post the vid)

Sunday was a repeat of Saturday morning, waking up with a slight headache from wine and the beer barn. We headed to Robs place once again for a tech session on Richards car, putting an x-pipe on, checking the flex plate and crank play. His car sounds great.

Around noon some headed out for home and Rog did the damnedest thing, he gave EVERYONE (even the kids got a ticket) in attendence a ticket and a prize. Motor mounts, pan gaskets, hood shocks, intake tubes, oil filters, gift certificates. Everyone one won something. When you see several 10 year olds winning intake tubes for the parents car, you see some happiness.

I got a great prize, that I don't know if I will be able to afford to use. Paul Champaign put up a 10% off a front seat leather redo and I got that one. Now I just need to come up with the $$ to have mine redone.

This was a great gathering and, it was said numerous times during the stay, it's not the cars that make it great. It's the people. Even if we didn't have our cars in common, I'd love to hand with this group. For those that are in neighboring states, or across the USA, plan this one as a trip to do. You will have a great time and let us show you what Texas hospitality is all about.

I need to say, after I've rambled this long, that it was great to meet our new members. Troy, I met you last year. You were there for a couple of hours as you dropped one 928 and picked up the black beauty. Ben, welcome to the crew, you have the enthusiasum (I can't spell tonight) and it was fun talking to you, besides, I like the Star Trek seats. piccardo and I showed up at the same brokerage looking at a 928 2 years ago, and we kept looking at each other like we knew one another. This was during our S4 hunt. Great to see you again. Russ I don't even begin to know what to say about the Euro Hybrid, it's not for everyone but I think you are on to something, it's bad ***. Never thought I'd see side pipes on a 928, it works with the OB. Nice work.

RANDY CARTER you need to kiss some *** and get back on Rennlist. Angela about freaked when I said....." Yes hon, that is THE Randy Carter"

I know I'm missing people, I'm terrible with names, I'll remember faces. We had another Euro hybrid show up, and that car was great also.

People, plan on 3rd coast next year, this was a fantastic time. I'll try to get the video of Chuck and Rog singing Led Zepplin up, I just have to make sure I will still have access to parts and knowledge after I do so.

Oh, I'm still waiting to see the pictures of Angela haning out the sun roof at 70 with her camera................she busted my sun visor.
