Default wish me luck...

Going to see a car this morning that I've been looking at for a while. So far everything has checked out aces. And after the week I've just been through, I deserve something!

So is this car a 5-spd?

If so, I commend you on your taste in 928s! And...

Check the feel of the clutch pedal.
How is it going into reverse?
Ask if you can take it for a spin and see how it starts to pull at about 3200 in 3rd gear.
Does it keep pulling through 5000?

Yep. 5sp, all maintenance done recently including some biggies, beautiful original condition, and a really unusual color. The mechanic said it was "immaculate, I'd buy it in a heartbeat."

I expect to hear that 5k rpm sound in just over 2 hours....

Default MINE!!!!!!

Wow! What a car. Just phenomenal condition, has that wonderful "lope" at idle and pulls cleanly in every gear all the way to redline. When I pulled up the driveway and saw it sitting there, it was better than the pictures could show. The paint is original, deep and perfect, the polished S4 wheels are gorgeous (wasn't sure I'd like them), the interior is just as nice and even the rear quarter panels are straight and true.

And did I mention the sound? It also has the full Bilstein/Eibach suspension and felt nailed to the asphalt, just stable and true, took my hands off the wheel at 80mph and it didn't move.

What does it need? Mostly little things and one big thing. The shifter is loose, the steering has a small amount of play, and it definitely needs motor mounts. The big thing is the actuator for the a/c under the dash - won't blow through the center vents.

Did I mention it's a LONG ways from home? Now how in the hell am I going to wait for a couple weeks to get it transported home? Anyone recommend a good transport service?

BWAAHHHHH!!!!!!

That's great! Congratulations!

Tell us more about the car. 5-speed? Year?

Sorry, still in recovery.

Stats:
1983 928S rauchquarzmetallic, 5sp, bilstein/eibach, short shift, S4 wheels, and everything else (and I mean EVERYTHING else) factory-stock original. Paint, interior, Clifford alarm, toolkit, spare wheel, compressor, paint stick, gloves (!), manuals.

And did I mention full records back to 1985 and a full set of factory service manuals?

Very nice. I'd love to see it when you get it home. I recommend the self transport service. Sounds like it's condition makes it ready for a road trip. If it's really far away, take a few days and spend some quality time with your new family member and drive it home.

Yeah I thought about it. I've driven cars home from as far away as San Antonio, NY (to St. Louis), and Norfolk, but this one is a bit further and I just can't afford to take the time off right now. Besides, sandblasting that perfect paint through the desert southwest would be more than I could stand. Nope, enclosed transport all the way. It's worth it. But the wait is going to kill me.
