Default '86.5 vs. earlier '86

Educate me on what the differences were in the 1986.5 vs. the 1986 or 1985?

Thanks!

The first 1000 USA spec 1986 cars used left over 1985 brakes and front suspension, exhaust systems.

Larger brakes, different floor pan, dual exhaust all the way back, different suspension.

The S4 adopted those things from the '86.5.

Thanks, I ran into one for sale locally and checked the vin, "1650" which I believes makes it an '86.5. Always hear about the upgrades the 86.5 got so I was curious what exactly they were.

I knew some '86.5 owners would help me out.......

improved ABS, RMB capable, better jack points, proper diff drain plugs, aluminum spare, interior light delay, aluminum rear trailing arm mounts...

The 86.5 US was half a year late getting the standard 86 Euro/ROW features.

More like the first 3 months of production( in late 1985 ) up to serial # 92GS60999 first 999 assuming they started selling with 0001.

Well the '86.5 in question has officially been adopted.
I won't call it a rescue mission but it does needs some serious TLC. It test drove very solid and the engine and tranny are strong. Original paint and leather dash/console will need some kissing and rubbing on. I will be calling on the 'list to help with the ins & outs of my first "S" model 928. Should be a good winter project and TWO 928's are better than one.....right?!?

Sorry no pics yet but will post some soon.

Don't also forget the intelligence upgrade that the 86.5 owners enjoy.

But you are clearly sharp and obviously already knew this...

Welcome to the secret 86.5 club. Please stand by for your secret handshake.
