Hate the front plate! My solution...

I have not run a front plate on my sports type cars since I turned 16. I have been pulled over many times over the years for speeding, rolling through stop signs, etc, but never once has an officer mentioned the front plate missing. Live a little on the edge, skip the front plate. 77Tony

While living in Katy, Texas I got busted twice - both Jaguars. An XK-8 with a front plate just looks ugly.
Fine is $150 for no front plate!
The 928 doesn't seem as noticeable. Must be the slope. The 911 is an antique plate so only 1 is required.
Stupid law! You can thank the 3M lobbyist

Of course the real reason for the front plate is because it is the best target for the radar gun. I live in Washington and have never heard of anyone getting pulled over for it. Plus I hate the look...and keep the plate in the trunk with the mounting bracket at the ready for the ensuing sob story.
Then heading south on I-5 just south of downtown Seattle, right-hand lane doing five under the limit for reasons I don't recall, state patrol on the shoulder pulls out and immediately pulls us over. He was very friendly and reminded us that front plates were required, and took a pen and circled "front plate is required" on our registration so that we would remember. Oddly, we lost that copy of the registration shortly after and had to get a replacement, which was only $5 from the county license folks.
My conclusion is that if you drive the speed limit or under, then you are going to get hassled for no front plate. But that is easily solved.
As for Sheriff Bill, I've never asked but I suspect he could care less.

Tony, I tried living on the edge for a while, but a few years ago I was subject to a sobriety check in Bethesda MD. The reason that he pulled me over? No front plate. I passed the test, but had I not, it would have been a very expensive aesthetic defiance.
Maryland is one thing, but the money grab is so desperate in DC that aside from red light and mobile speed cameras at every artery to and from the affluent suburbs, parking enforcement will ticket you $150 if you stray into their revenue snare without a front plate.
A few weeks ago they pulled over a Maryland driver for having expired registration & arrested her solely for having expired registration. I'm sure was allowed to go after paying a couple hundred dollar fine.
Generating revenue by enforcing other states' motor vehicle laws...what a novel idea.
I stay the hell out of DC at all costs (except for Caps games )

I'm so glad that PA doesn't require the front plate. Removing the front plate and bracket was my first 928 repair when I brought it home from NY.

Last I checked, a valid registration was required no matter where you are.
The other side of the 'money grab' coin is simply 'dont break the law'.
Of course, a number of people will feel upset about the state doing what it told you it would do..if you did those things.

Front Plate?
It's required here in colorado as well. Been pulled over once for it. Got a warning 7 or 8 years ago now.
The only vehicle I drive that will ever have a front plate is my truck. Trucks wear them well, especially trucks with big chrome bumpers!!
As for modified cars, and sports cars.... no the front plate doesn't belong, and exceptions should be allowed.
I put the front plate in the windshield. so they leave me alone.
The friendly officer usually then goes onto the real reason why I got pulled over... Too low, too loud, pretty color, how does it ride, how fast does it go! I haven't even driven the 928 yet... that should be an experience!

I had been pulled over twice for no front plate before I moved up to Dallas/Ft. Worth. Both times, they let me off and told me to get a front plate back on the car. So now, I begrudgingly run the front plate seeing as I got off twice, I didn't want to push my luck any further. Now, when I go to our area get togethers, it seems like I am one of the very few even running a front plate up here in DFW.

That's what the DC cop told the Navy lieutenant commander when in July, he was picking up Chinese takeout & was arrested for having an expired registration. A law-abiding Naval officer who was soon to be dispatched to Afghanistan to serve our country was arrested and taken into custody.
Now he has to check the "Yes" box whenever he's asked if he's ever been arrested.
Then there was the mom picking up her kid from school. Arrested.
My point is not that a front plate or valid registration shouldn't be enforced, but arrest and jail? Seriously?

..anecdotal. Bad debate form.
****ty people exist. Cant help that, law or not.
The issue is..dont want a front plate fix-it ticket, the way to prevent that is install it.
Its not complicated.
i ran without one for YEARS..finally got a fix-it..and decided it wasnt worth the hassle..and put er on.
Then again, I could go without, and see what happens...then deal with it again.
I got bigger things to worry about than the vanity of how my car looks with/without it.
