Default Where does the upper A arm pivot

Just in the process of replacing the upper A Arm bushes with poly bushes. When I tighten the nuts on the ends of the pivot shaft so that the large washers seat on the shoulders of the pivot shaft it is nigh impossible to rotate the A Arm relative to the pivot shaft.

For clarity what I have named Pivot Shaft is the Tee section bar with two bolts that fastens through the inner wing.

What I can't fathom out is where the rotation is supposed to take place as the upper a arm rotates up and down with suspension movement.

Between the steel sleeve in the bush and the pivot shaft rod ends.

Between the steel sleeve and the bush

or just by twisting the bush itself?

It can't possibly be between the bush and it's housing in the A Arm can it ?

TIA

the bushing itself is what is supposed to flex, hence why you are supposed to tighten the end nuts once the car is on the ground.

No. It is between the shaft and the inner sleeve when its loose enough to do so. When its al tight, and you have poly bushings, it still moves there, but not as much because the larger washers at the ends are restricting this movement.

It's difficult to be certain but i think when the nuts are tight (but not torqued up) it seems as if the sleeve is trapped.

Thanx for the reminder. I snugged the nuts home with it all off the car out of curiosity more than anything - will have to undo it a lot to get enough movement to refit to the car in something like the correct plane.

Now to deal with the broken front spring.
