Cheap Porsche Insurance
Has anyone dealt with Leyland-West Insurance
Co?Recommended by PCA,they offer cheap rates
for under driven Porsches although a lot of restrictions apply.

I looked at the insurance and the only real restrictions I saw was the milage limitations and the need to have the car garaged.
When I purchased my 928 my premiums were 2.5 times what my other car was and I had great record and was 64. I choose this insurance because I want to drive my car more than 5000 mile a year.
BUT if I have a major accident I will never get back what the car is worth or what I have in it, so there is good and bad points and most of the time the insurance companies are not going to be hurt.

I use Haggerty Classic insurance. I pay $450 per year with a stated value of $28,000. If the car is wrecked or stolen they pay the stated value with no questions asked.
The only requirements:
Must be kept in a locked garage.
Can not be used for work/driven to work.
Must fill out detailed form with pictures and submit for approval.
Must own another car with full coverage for "daily driving."

I used to hate Allstate...variety of reasons.
But, because Texas is undergoing massive claims re; Black mold and the horrendous containment removal and interior rebuilds of a lot of homes - Farmers is quoting $40 million per month now - everyone is getting their butts kicked on premium escalations.
Mine was jumping 40%... Forget about it!
While searching for alternatives my wife was quoted well under $1000.00 for three sets of wheels. This quote is not bound to the House insurance either.
Full coverage on the new Montero and 928, liability on the F-150. The sHARk is covered for replacement up to $50,000 - and I grilled the rep., appears to be on the level with no hidden/small print clauses. No limitations to use or mileage with exception of not to be used 'FOR' business purposes.
This is not an endorsement, but could be the
start of a relationship.

You may want to read your policy very closely. Just because your policy states $100,000/$50,000/$100,000 doesn't mean they will give you $100,000 for you car if it is wrecked. However, if you car is actually determined to have a fair market value of $50,000 you will probably get a check for the $50,000. But, the last time I checked their were very few 928s that would be in that range.
Most, non-specialized in collector cars, insurance companies will only give you fair market value for your vehicle if it is wrecked. Fair market value on most 928s isn't squat and will probably upset you at the replacement cost they offer/will pay.
If someone has a very special 928, the owner must get a stated value policy or have it appraised and written into the policy. Leave it to the insurance companies and they will screw you every time. They may not intentionally try to screw you but.........
Many of the people on this list are fanatics about their 928s and have spent a truckload of money getting the thing to the right condition. We know how expensive it is to get these cars near perfect, perfect, or better than perfect and most would probably not want to start the process over with a 928 unless they had a bucket of cash to throw at the car.

So all of the remaining 82' hulks won't be visiting me should tragedy strike. Actual replacement, probably, with some haggling will be the bottom line.
In the end the old man -attorney-read what I faxed him and he said the contract confirms the reps sales pitch. I will be the first to agree it sounds to good to be true.
Of most interest to me was that ultimately I could seperate the blue book from actual replacement value.

INSURANCE BUYERS BEWARE!! Be careful of those terms "stated value" and "agreed value". "Stated" commonly means they will pay you either the stated amount on the policy OR its actual value as determined by the insurance company at the time of the loss! (ever check the blue book value on your prized possession? you would probably cry knowing that's what you'll actually get!). On the other hand "agreed value" commonly means if the vehicle is stolen or is a total loss, they will pay you that agreed amount. If in doubt, have them spell it out in clear language as others suggest.
Have bought insurance from Leyland-West for about 8 years. Cost on my $12,000 agreed value '82 is about $375. I have the "pleasure use" plan (2500 miles/year, low unless you're a sunny weekend driver); no commuting to work, and garaged kept. Had to provide no more than 4 pics and 1 of the garage space. Have not had a claim so don't know their responsiveness.

Yah, mine is "agreed value" of $28,000 that is paid in full with no negotiation required if the car is wrecked or stolen.
The bad thing: the $28,000 wouldn't return my car to its present condition but it would get me a good starter car.

I'm curious.
How is the milage/vehicle use verified?Do you photograph the odometer?I mean if we have a dry summer,Sunday Drives can add up.

Back to my ages old assessment of Allstate/representatives.
For all of the detail, specifics, and questions provided and posed vs the pledges, promises made - zip....
Made the agent fax me a print ...Porsche not even listed. Redid the print costs for six months only, reprint, ok, where was the promissary note of value coverage... not forthcoming. I knew it was to good to be true
but after all I had their word, har har!
