Carlos/George - this topic showcases a supercharging project on a 928.

If you wish to discuss SC'd 944s, please feel free to start a topic on the 944 forum.

Thanks for your consideration.

Randy if the topic don't fit I guess you won't quit!! relax the pic of the 944 supercharger was just a cool pic of a race porsche at the track with a supercharger (joke). BTW I have seen you make comments in the past about superchargers that are out of pocket to the topic at hand, what gives? I think the pic BC Davis put up was real cool, I would like to see it again...............

I do know this when a powerband jumps up so does a need for a racing type clutch. The weak link to the drivetrain is what breaks first. I think the setup Abby has in store is going to be the best performance mod to date with the addition of the C5 vette 6 speed transmission to a supercharged 928 setup.

John Kuhn whats the deal with Carlos not liking the Bastard? He likes the Basterd, so do I. I think you could have a rare super fast car if you wanted to push the limits of the turbos and drivetrain. All Carlos ever said was he would like to hook up in bowling green in september to see it in person and maybe both of you guys could go do a little test and tune at the track.

We know the deal by now.

No 911s.
No boobies.
No 944s.
No bashing shops without proof.
No jokes.
No politics.

Back to 928's and superchargers...

Kompressor ebay link:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33643&item=2422196786" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33643&item=2422196786</a>

$35 BIN..

I was also considering buying a "PORSCHE" emblem and keeping just the "SC" to match the font - so you would have an S4SC.

Will the upcoming manual have nice instructions of what "health checks" the motor should have before showing up at Tim's with $8k so it has a likely chance for success?

8k...
check wallet for lotto ticket cash...

S/C for Pattycakes...
This should work, right?
The $6500,00 to $8500.00 for an S?C install seems to be cast in stone.
You guy's have demonstrated a practical end product as opposed to those 1/2 year or better unfinished projects. Kit form no less!
Seems worthwhile to me.
Nice finished package. Congrats'. <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" />

I started my S/C project about a year ago and the first three months were spent on research.
I thought I could buy all the parts used or on e-bay and save a lot of money. The only kits were FAST @ about $6500.00 or Project 928 @ about the same. My car is done and it looks/runs great!!! But I have over $8,000.00 in receipts and A LOT OF TIME INVESTED!!!!! If there had been a kit such as the one Tim is offering I would have bought it and been on the road having fun in a weekend.

Thanks for the vote Beast. But just think, if you could have just bought the kit we would have never got to know each other as well as we have over the past year. I too wish I could have just bought it. Heck, in hindsight I could have bought 2 and still saved myself the 100's of hours.

Tim,
Again, impressive results. Can you tell me what testing you perfromed so far? Ambiant and engine temp ranges, gas octane ranges (what octane are you running at the 500 rwhp level), altitude pressure ranges, etc. Any thoughts on final costs?

I have a GTS engine that is "low" compression built for supercharging with modified pistons...and your kit looks perfect! It would make a great companion to our stroker 928!

Regards,
Marc

The conditions for the above car when it did the dyno pull posted at the beginning of the thread were an ambient temperature of just over 79F, and 29.75Hg pressure. Elevation was about 625' above sea level. Gas was 93 octane premium unleaded pump gas (Shell brand if I remember right). Engine temperature was between the center of thte two white lines on the S4 gauge, and ranged from there up to near the upper white line at times during the dyno session.

The conditions for the 525rwhp dyno chart of Tim's that was previously posted were an ambient temperature of 67.5F, and 29.49Hg pressure. Elevation was the same 625' above sea level, and premium unleaded pump gas of 92 or 93 octane was used that time too (probably the 93 octane). Engine temperature was also in the same range as the above car.

Both car the above car and Tim's were each driven approximately 30 minutes to the dyno, strapped down and run, so were basically at normal operating temperature.

Sounds good.....how does it run with the same blower output level and 91 (or lower)octane pump....the best we can get in cali, except for the tract and a few outlets. The best you can get at altitude is often 90 octane or less!

Any testing yet at 100 degrees ambiant? Or with warm engine, 100 ambiant and 91 octane at rated boost pressure? If not, I am sure you will do the testing soon as summer is here!

Let me know when you are ready to ship product!

PS....bring one to DEVEK Days...there will be at least one other SC 928 here...

Thanks fraggle and Shane for the emblem ideas.

Someone else had an idea similar to yours using the Porsche font. I think that whatever I end up doing will be done using the Porsche font as I would like it to blend in as much as possible.

Yes it will. A leak-down and compression test would be considered the bare minimum, and for a comprehensive check, a dyno run to see what the car baselines at. The reason for the dyno is that even though the first two tests may look good, the stock horsepower can still be off due to a bad cam lobe for example, and a baseline dyno run will reveal that something is not quite right. ‘Blindly’ adding a supercharger on top of the existing condition would only serve to cover up the mechanical defect, as well as limit the horsepower the engine produces with a supercharger.

We feel so strongly regarding the three steps above, Tim is considering making it mandatory before he sells someone a kit. For example, if the tests come back negative, well, use the money saved for the supercharger kit to fix the engine instead. Fix the root of the problem, and the whole tree lives, grasshopper. Tim will have one less sale, but, it is much more important to do things in the right order rather than simply pumping out supercharger kits.

Doing it this way WILL maximize one’s chances for success, and both buyer and seller are happy.
