I'm 6'4" and fit in my '90, which has a sunroof. Of course, it'd be tight with a helmet on, and I have the seat all the way back with the seatback reclined a bit. The seat tracks have two sets of holes, so if fit is an issue on a car you're looking at, run the seat all the way forward and see which set of mounting holes it's in.

For headroom, if you can't find a non-sunroof 928 that you like, you could consider putting a sport or racing seat in yours, especially if you're considering hitting the track.

I just installed a fixed back Sparco racing seat in my S4 as an experiment to see how much more headroom I could get. With the Sparco sliders installed, I got an additional 2", and I'm sitting much more upright (not laying down like an F1 driver), and am much more comfortable since I can now reach the steering wheel and shifter properly.

With the Sparco, I have about 1" clearance. Without the sliders, I should get another 1/2 to 1". That should allow me to get a helment on comfortably.

Getting in and out is a royal pain though, so I will probably buy a "sport seat" that reclines, but sitll give me improved headroom.

Really? You have a 1991 w/o a sunroof! That is ultra rare.

No kiddin', there really isn't a sunroof in it..

Still, imaging most people wold prefer it with the sunroof. I didn't care when I bought it, since "the car has aircon". That was before I discovered the not exactly stellar performance of the AC....

Welcome Shane,

I would suggest you check out some different years and different setups before making a hard and fast decision like eliminating all cars with sunroofs. Have you driven one? I'm about 6', and like to lean back when I drive, so I've got a few inches of clearance below the sunroof, but some don't like this configuration. But then again, my knuckles drag on the ground when I walk, so if you're built like a normal human, you might have problems.

You would have more of a chance if it were something like, I only want a manual, or I only want an automatic. You also have to make the biggest decision I think anyone makes with one of these: Am I looking for one that's already "Sorted out" or am I going to do the sorting on my own? In the end the dollar investment will probably be more or less even money. The question is, do you want to pay up front, or do you want to pay afterward to get it all taken care of. Someone has to pay to make it drivable and reliable, it's all in whether you want it to be you or one of the POs.

Will you do your own wrenching?

Thanks for all the input. Yes I will be doing my own wrenching so manuals are on the list . I may have found my car. its a 78,rust free, 5spd(YES!), no sunroof(YES!!), silver out black in(YES!!), 59k ,runs drives,needs tlc and fresh paint.I did not have time to hear it run or drive it.The rack leaks some.I know its not the fastest version Porsche made but it is lacking nothing I cant upgrade later(wheels,leather,spoiler,etc.) I am going to do some searches for problems with that year.

welcome to the board Shane, seriously consider becoming a member, the extra features will pay for themselves in a few days
don't be afraid of an early car being underpowered, that can be overcome... be more concerned about the rest of the car, get someone familiar with 928s to do a pre-purchase inspection (PPI), this will give you a much better idea of the "project" you're looking at
