Default Weight savings?

What are the least used parts and components when it comes to racing? So I can shave off some pounds. I obviously know gutting the interior, but is there anything else like the heater or ac and what not?

There have to be some threads about this...

Dump the factory seats for something lighter. Remove the back seats. Remove all the HVAC stuff inside the car and under the hood (condenser, compressor). Pull the inner door panels and replace them with sheet metal. Change the window glass for lexan. Remove the dash. Et cetera. There are tons of things to take out. Anything you don't need to make the car drive can go. It's pretty simple.

don't forget sound deadening material, lighter exhaust components, lighter tire/wheel combo's (I lost nearly 50 pounds going from 16's to 19's), remove sunroof and it's related mechanisms (if you have one), air pump, rear wing (OEM S4 or GTS wing is heavy---replace w/fiberglass unit), clutch fan (replace w/electric fan kit), remove all lights, unnecessary wiring, put yourself on a diet if you're (oh no!) overweight, .....ad nauseum

I think there is a lot that can be done without totally sacrificing the drivability and comfort of the car. The AC system is pretty heavy, but can be slightly lightened. Seat and interior panels can be substituted for other pieces. Sound deadening can be ripped and scraped out and replaced with lighter materials that do the same thing. Front and rear bumpers don't do much for safety, or at least they can be lightened.

There are a myriad of threads about this specific subject, outlining both outrageous weight savings and more mundane stuff.

The issue obviously with the 928 is alot of weight is removed from the rear, screwing up the balance of the car. This would be bad. I am focusing more on the front of the car. Without weight on the front, it will turn in quicker.

you will be upsetting the balance of the car by only removing weight from the front, causing the car to kick the rear out in corners.

if you remove the weight from the center/interior you'll still have the balance most racers try to achieve.....

First, I don't recall saying anything about ONLY removing weight from the front. I said I was focusing there, and prior to that I mention the ease of removing weight from the rear, implying that I had already done that.

Secondly, WTF are you talking about? Removing weight from the FRONT will make the rear lose? This isn't an ***-dragging 911.

I'm not even going to get into this with you. Please pass through. And use the search function next time you have a question that has been asked 100 times. There is a 10 page thread about this exact thing. Another 13 page thread. I was nice about it at first, but if you aren't even going to apply comprehension to what I say, you are on your own.

Geeezzzz----lighten up a little.

I know what you're doing and what you'd like to do----it's nothing to get worked up about.

For that matter, cut the damn roof off if you like. Break out a hole saw and REALLY get after it......

you asked, I replied----and was quite nice about it.

i will damn sure make a point to NEVER reply to your measely little conversation about a subject that you readily admit has been cussed and discussed for an eternity here....

Have a nice day.

P.S.

and since you are "new to this", as you say...... WTF is not acceptable language on any post.

This ain't New York where you can't get out a sentence without cussing someone out be fore you're point is put across.

Yes, you are correct, you are not dealing with a 911 (or any of it's variants) in your quest, but the same principal applies.

If you are building a race 928, there are many other racers here and on 928 Owners Club that would be very willing to help, as long as you lose the NY attitude.

Perhaps you should move up the coast and help out Danglerb?

You guys would make great pals......

Whoa, I think I walked into the wrong bar.

Layton, see if you can find the master weight saving thread. I do believe there is one.

I think you have serious reading comprehension issues. I never said anything about what I am doing and what I'd like to do in a general way. Either you think you are talking to someone else, or you're just clueless.

And here we have it. I am not the original poster tex. PLEASE read more carefully before you post. The original poster asked a question, and I was responding. Put it together.

And the hits keep rolling. I'll speak as I choose within the rules of rennlist. You are not a censor. And you continue to think I asked the question originally.

I think I really am right about your reading skills. My name is right there, next to my avatar. Its spelled Brendan. Why write it again wrong. To **** me off? You already did when you started posting out of your a$$. I think you have that problem where you read maybe every 4th or 5th word. Thats usually fixed by 4th grade. WTF is used regularly, and looking at your wopping 39 posts, they elicit such a comment quite often.

Finally, I was just telling Sterling that I had yet to meet a man from the Great State of Texas that I did not like. And Roger counts since he took Texas as his home after leaving The Queen's court.

YOU have ruined that record. Shove off and, indeed
