AMAZING COMMERCIAL
Believe it or not, this was real, no computer tricks. I read an article in a UK newspaper which detailed how everything was done, including the tire going uphill; can't remember how they did it but the explanation was fairly simple.
As I recall there were 700 takes before they got a keeper, something like 2200 manhours.
Worth it, I'd say.

According to the article they loaded it with nuts and bolts in the upper half then carefully balanced it so that the slightest push would start it rolling.
I must admit though, that the entire scene looks like CG - I have a hard time understanding why anyone would bother with this whole setup when it could have been done in a fraction of the time at a fraction of the cost using CG.
In fact, I'm still not convinced it's not CG - just because they say it isn't doesn't necesarrily make it so
. Remember, this is PR - the only people I trust less than car salesmen are marketing people. Even less so a marketing agency working for someone who sell cars

The real CG tipoff is the board going through the window glass. The glass lowers and allows the cylindrical part to roll through the window. But the board seems to go through the glass. I don't see a slot in the board or supports.
Steve,
Look again, more closely. You will see there is a slot, look where those two curly wires appear to be connected to the board on either side of the slot. It fooled me too the first couple of times.
cheers

Neils, I like the "real" aspect of it. The whole fact that its real just enhances the wow factor. It would be like not going to see the Mona Lisa because I can download a really high quality picture of it on the Internet.
Watch the tire scene again, it appears that the tires speed are rratic, slightly faster slower, like the tires move at different speeds when they are about to collide. Not sure, maybe just my eyes. I am getting a tad tired.
The commercial is impressive, no matter how you look at it.
