928 s4 cooling fans
Even though my cars temperature never goes past the 3/4 mark, I would feel better if it stayed at the half way mark. How much? and how difficult? is it to installing the double fans from a 928 S4. Thanks Sal

I know that having the temp gauge read cooler would seem less disconcerting, but the 928 engine runs more efficiently at a higher temp, (as long as it doesn't over-heat).
I know it takes time to get used to a higher temp reading than otherwise would be considered normal, but once you do you'll only be concerned if the warning light comes on. I suggest you take the car to the track and get it working good and hard. You'll be amazed at just how hot it must get to cause the warning light to come on. YMMV.

If you 928 is an earlier car, the temp marker should really stay closer to the middle - almost level I believe. The later cars are known to ride the higher levels on the gauge (My 89 rides 3/4 most of the time). But my wife's 81 stayed at half unless it was put through some very rough canyons, and then it never went above 3/4, just like yours.
I suppose if your early 928 is running more than half in New Jersey in the early summer, that you could benefit from some changes. Maybe your viscous fan is not pulling enough air?

I found out the just how hot these engines can get!!
Originally my 87S4 would run at the 1/2 way mark,
but the fan control unit was'nt working and one fan was on all the time. Anway, replaced the control unit and noticed that it was now running clser to the 3/4 mark. About a month later I noticed over a 2 week period that the Temp was slowly going up day by day. Finally the the light came on and I noticed that just bellow the oil filler there is a section of the block that spilt oil sits in. This was BOILING like it was in a fryer, unlike other times. The thermostat had sealed shut and the only circulation was via the bypass hose. Replaced the thermostat and all is perfect. I can'nt get over the extreme temperatures this motor can handle without fault...it can only be a Porsche.!!!!!!
