"S" brake upgrade installed
Well John finally put them bigger brakse on my car. Now the bad news, I had a feelng this would not be the cats meow. I was right the meager little stock size master cylinder gives me to much travel. Easy effort and stops great even without the pads fully bedding. Guess that is fluid power/hydraulics at it's finest.
So the quest continues, but now for a bigger master cylinder that will bolt to my early booster. Will any fit? John what did you do with your master cylinder when you upgraded to the S4 system? did it provide enough umph? <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Hi Joe,
Glad to hear that everything is installed.
I was just looking in the work shop manuals and it appears the MC are the same from 78 to 83. It was changed when they introduced ABS without the diagional system.
So your MC shouldn't be a problem. You booster is a 9" vs the 10", but that shouldn't cause a travel problem.
Could you have an air bubble? Might want to try and bleed them again.
Let me look for the old MC so I can tell you the size so you can compare.

Joe,
If you what the go all the way, the 4-piston caliper brake booster number is 928.355.025.24, 10inches in diameter, with a 4.5 internal ratio, to reduce the pedal operating force. If you use this booster you must change the brake pedal, to #927.423.501.08 since the pedal stop is now in the new booster. The new tandem master cly.for the 4piston caliper has two valves. You also will need a brake pressure reducing valve of 18bar to avoid an over braking of the rear wheels.

Has anyone ever done what Steve Suggested? I could get all these parts... But would it help at all? I am putting S Brakes on a 78.
