Default My first Porsche :)

Hello people,

first i want to say thanks for this great forum, i already got a lot of help, when my engine did not act properly the days after i bought it. But after a good engine wash and a round of spray and renewal of the CE panel the problems seem to have disappeared

Car is a euro spec 1989 with 274000km. Can not say the mileage is very noticable in any ways. I love the power of this engine!

Previously i have only had Japanese cars, Honda and Toyotas. They are solid workers, but not much more...this is so much more fun!

a few teasers (mobile cam)

high? nooo.

Okay, i'll show you high:

Government is not very found of big polluting engines over here. They rather see everyone in a 1.0 Kia (or even better stamped into buses with no air). Therefore they put some "minor" taxes to the bigger engined cars.

If i was to import a car i would have to pay taxes depending on engine power, engine size and weigth of the car. Also the age is considered.

On this actual car i would have come up with $27000. And that is only taxes. Then add what you paid for the car, and then again 25% of what you paid for the car in VAT.

Therefore we do not see many new 928's imported, and we have to settle with those few already here. A mint condition S4 with low mileage is around $40000 here.

I did not import mine, and lets just say I paid less than only the taxes i would have had to pay to import. In other words, not a bad buy i believe

Nice looking car! Mine's done 245k km's and I agree on the car not feeling its age.. no creaks or squeaks

I'm curious about the antenna on the roof - has it been replaced with something else, or is it broken off?

I'm interested in getting rid of mine and using something else - I've been spoiled by my Audi's that have no mounted antenna, and the 928 gets crap radio reception compared to them. (no satellite radio here in Aus)

Congratulations! This is a very beautiful car!

It's an 89 - right?

PS: I'm always amazed how many people take pictures of their 928 interior with this style steering wheel upside down...

When I see the see kilometer readings, it looks like a lot. My car only has 186,500 miles. Egad, that's over 300,000 km! Anyway, it drives like a new car. I took an old friend, who just bought an expensive Lexus, for a ride a few days ago. She was astonished at how rattle-free and solid the ride was in my 18 year-old beast.

These are truly great cars. Congratulations on your wise purchase.

I never thought of that, about the wheel. Is it an illusion or is the wheel asymmetrical? Is the space above the horn pad bigger than the space below? Or maybe you can read the Porsche insignia on the wheel and I can't.

I just went out and checked. The space above the horn button is about 3/4" bigger than the space below (or is it opposite?). I had a 50/50 chance of having it right.

Yep - space above is much bigger than below. In addition, there is a seam in the leather at the bottom, but not the top...

Thanks for the replies guys and girls.

About future upgrades, i am thinking maybe a set of Bilstein shocks and some springs. GTS mirrors would have been nice. And i am actually getting a set of original 17" 996 twists today

Actually I don't know. Haven't had time to check that out. But radio signals are poor so i guess broken.

You will definitely love the 17" wheels! Big difference in cornering, but on the 89 you will also need significant steering effort with those - particularly when parking! I chose a 91 model because of the increased power assist, which allows me to drive with 17" wheels and not get a sweaty workout every time I park the car...

I agree on the GTS mirrors those would be my next upgrade after the wheels. I got them immediately when I bought my car, and they really do upgrade it very nicely! Supposedly, their better aerodynamics also allow for up to 5 km/h higher top speed (nobody has ever proven that, though, and I'm not sure where I read it).

And then, if you want to go crazy, you can always click on the link in my signature... You would not be my first customer in Scandinavia!

Either way, enjoy the beast, and try to stay away from bears...

with the same tire wideness shouldn't the tires turn in the same way?

I am going for 225/255 i think. it's 7" and 9" wheels.

And i might go crazy
