If you use a higher pressure pump or restrictor-free hose would the higher pressure/flow cause the rack to leak any more than usual? What if your rack already leaks a little bit - while these changes hasten the leakage and/or necessary replacement of the rack?

No signs of leaks. The rack was a recent rebuild. Since it fits this and later cars that used unrestricted hoses, I assume it's built to take the higher pressure. The splice is double-clamped per Garth's comment. The hose I spliced has a bumper at the fenderwell. And the splice is, of course, exactly where the old dougnut was before. So, time will tell. At least I now know what an unrestrictor hose works/feels like. But I'm too old to try any auto-crossing or similar.
