Post Will a Euro car radio work in the US?

Hi Everybody
It seems that only in Europe they sell the Nakamichi MB 75 in-dash changer in amber display. If I buy this unit from the UK, will it:
a. Fit and wire up in my 928?
b. Will the radio work?

Something tells me that the radio won't work because I believe they have some crazy frequencies over in Europe.

You are correct, the freq bands are diff in the UK. I believe the upper and lower start and stop points are diff and also the steps are slightly diff. I do know that some radios have the ability to be programmed for either, not sure on the Nak. I've got a green display nak in my car, it's not so bad that it sticks out. Better than a shiny silver deck with multi-colored display

My sources tell me that while it will work, all of the broadcasts will be in other languages or with a thick british accent.

Sorry, could not resist. ; )

My main concern is the color of the display. I can get a MB 75 for a reasonable price but I think a green display will stick out too much.
KBlair? Any thoughts? Wouldn't happen to have a picture of your unit with the display on?

From what I've researched is that the AM freq might be hit or miss as Europes goes up in step on a factor of 9 mhz not 10 like ours. So whatever it starts at the next station is x+9 and so on. Ours are 660,670, 680... theirs are 660, 669, 678... On the FM freq it should work OK because I think they as our stations move up in .1 increments theirs move up in .05 increments. Again ours would be 101.5, 101.6, 101.7,... theirs 101.5, 101.55, 101.6, ...
The only radios I can find that I like are in Europe too, but I do like to listen to sports talk on the AM dial once in a while..

don't have a pic handy, but I'll see what I can do. As far as fit and wiring, you should be good. It depends on how picky you are about the color matching. the amber definately matches better, but the green doesn't look out of place either. I was more concerned with the audio quality and faceplate styling than display color. I will say that I thought I was getting the amber display, but it turned out to be a green unit (bought it slightly used). After putting it in and turning it on, I was dissapointed but decided that it didn't matter too much.

One I think would look nice id the TP-1200 or the TA-25. the big **** in the center does something for me. The ultimate would be the Nak CD-700II

Well, I just gave in and bought a CD-400 unit. I've read that it's pretty top of the line PLUS it switches amber/green or both at once. My next purchase will be an accompanying MB 100 6 disc changer somewhere down the line. From what I understand, this will plug right into the head unit and can be stored in the glove box or even the under dash tray I believe.

Nice choice. nak makes some of the best sounding equipment in the car audio biz, but they often get overlooked because of a so-called "lack of features" and their styling doesn't appeal to the 18 yr old Honda Civic crowd.

I would like to know if it's possible to use a euro tuner in the US. Becker makes a nice looking unit, the Mexico Pro, and if you can live with no AM it would be nice, assuming the FM tuner worked.

The retro dual **** style would blend nicely with the 928 interior and also would be a deterant to theft. It looks like a 10-yr old "radio", but the elctronics are top notch.

Orest, mind posting how much you paid for the CD-400? I'm seeing it on Ebay for $329. Excellent price for a unit of that quality, probably the best "bang for the buck" in SQ out there.

Cool

Well, I'm certainly no expert, but in 1999, I shipped my 1980 Jetta airport car to Belgium. This car had a cheap Jensen stereo [like...$79: deters thieves!], and it worked in Brussels...kinda. They have a feature there that automatically breaks into the music when you approach an area of construction or a major accident, and obviously this unit would not work for that, but otherwise, it was able to get several stations. They always play techno in Europe, so I was all set. Until they started speaking Dutch or French~

The long and short is that I **think** that a Euro radio will work in the United States, since a US radio worked in Europe. YMMV~~

I have an MB75 with a green display. I mentioned this to a local Nakamichi dealer here in the Bay Area. He said that he sells the removable face plate separately and that he could get me an amber face plate. I don't recall the exact price but it was under $100.00.
