Default Firm believer in Redline 70W90NS gear oil

I've heard about it, but simply never tried it before. I've had the typical grinding syncros on my 83 transmission - for racing I typically change the gear oil at least twice a year - this time I put in the Redline 70W90NS.

When I took it out for a test drive last night I was absolutely amazed. Even cold - the gears smoothly slipped into place - no grinding, no double clutching required...

So - now I'm off to bang my head against the wall wondering why I didn't do this sooner...

I'll have to put some of this in my 84 and see if it helps my similar issue.

yep, and the other miracle gear oil is swepco for the old rear ends. I found good luck with the redline NS for the LSD rear ends and trannie.

I changed to Swepco from Mobil 1 years ago and noticed an improvement. That was on Devek's recommendation quite a few years ago.

Check!

Another entry into the Ed B master list of must have products and upgrades.

Thanks! -Ed

ps: Chuck, I just bought a commuter mobile ('96 Volvo 855R turbo - 242 hp!) so will be able to park my S4 daily driver and do a bit of long neglected maintenance. I decided to take your advice and pull the engine and do a ton of the typical "pull the engine type work" on it. Will probably take me forever, put that's fine. I'll probably host a pull the engine 928 gathering once I get a free weekend day. I'll keep the PacNW'ers posted.

When I first got my GTS, I changed all of the fluids in the car among other things. I used Mobil 1 gear oil for the trans/final drive. When I got it finished and out on the road, I was very disappointed with the Mobil 1 and switched to Redline. WOW, MAJOR difference! I recently switched to Royal Purple and am NOT happy at all with the stuff. I think I will try the Swepco next.

Ummm, if you know that the Redline works well, why would you hop-scotch around with other products? Just curious...

I went from Mobile 1 to Swepco (on the DEVEK recommendation). BIG mistake! Save your money. Syncro action was much worse with Swepco. Changed to Redline - it was almost like a transmission rebuid in a bottle - much better.
