"Crank Sensor?"
Greetings from backwoods Arkansas,
I just put an 86 engine back together after a severe engine fire. After replacing all the ignition componants and lines(besides LH computer) she does not crank (turns over though). No spark, no fuel. I know the fuel pump works because I jumped it and it works. Relays are alright because I tested each one by substitution. I have been given advice that it may be the crank sensor but I am having a problem identifying it. The microfice does not help me on this one. I can't see your pictures but the sensor is mounted under the air box (near the flywheel). There are two units. One reads TDC and teeth (rotational position) and feeds the EZ brain while the other reads TDC and is not hooked up to anything. It can be used for diagnostics.

But ...
Remove the air cleaner.
Look at the extreme rear of the engine block in the center of the of the Vee for a retangular electrical connector - this is the connector for the sensor. Make sure that his connector is firmly attached, and has not disintegrated.
Follow the wire down to the top of the flywheel housing and find a black rectangular sensor held in by one screw. This is the sensor.
The sensor can only be tested by using an oscilloscope. See page 28-56 in the back of Volume 1-A of the Shop Manual.

Thanks Jay, glad to know there is a shark fan in Ozark country. I am beginning to rule out the crank sensor, it looks almost new and the harness is is good shape. Also, I cannot hear the fuel pump kick in when turning the key so there must be some other reason for no spark and no fuel.
Next step is to pop out the ignition switch I guess. Problem is trying to find a microfiche reader to read the manual.
