Post Adjustment of the brake light switch?

I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the point during brake pedal movement that the brake light circuit is first activated.

On my car, the brake lights don't come on until after the brakes do... it's been this way for years and I'd like to fix up this potential safety issue. I can very, very lightly feather the brakes and the lights don't come on. In stop-and-go traffic in conjunction with the manual transmission (which has an incredible engine brake effect) it's not difficult to avoid the brake light altogether... not a good situation! I often compensate by braking just a tad harder than I otherwise would. (By the way, I can tell when the lights come on because there's a very slight dip on the volt meter!)

The problem is that the circuit seems to be tripped by a switch/sensor embedded in the master brake cylinder, and there's no readily apparent adjustment mechanism.

Anybody know?

Thanks!
Rick

No adjustment possible.

The only thing that you could do would be to install a late model brake light switch on the pedal. This would require rewiring the brake lights so as to have brake lights AND the brake pressure warning system, which works off of the brake light switches (you have one on each brake hydraulic circuit).

I had the same problem on my 78 5 speed. Replacing both switches on the master cylinder fixed it.
