928developments / Phil Threshie still in biz?
Seems like most of the fun-928-R&D guys are located in Wisconsin for some reason...
I'm out in CA, so I noticed that in addition to our beloved 928international, we've supposedly got Phil Thresie and his 928developments folks in the bay area out here.
Web site seems a little dated, with hints that they've moved to Mare Island and broadened their work beyond 928's.
Anyone got additional info? Does Phil still create big wonderful 6.4L motors?

Dangit.
I'm in need of more torque, and a subject of the people's republic of California where superchargers are frowned upon.
I figured if I got stupid enough with my funds, I could scratch the foot-pounds itch with a perfectly-CARB-stealthy 6.4L upgrade.
Alas it seems both Devek and 928developments no longer really exist for such work.
Sigh.
Oh well, saves me money I suppose...

Shawn - there are still people making these motors. PM Erik (Hackerschor ENZOMAN) for info on their skunkworks there.

Thanks for the leads guys - we'll see how my funding/insanity ratio works out at the end of this year.
The wife had agreed that if my investing exceeded a certain threshold, the remainder could be applied to the "weekend car" as i saw fit.
And yes, I'm here in SB. Wonderful town, as long as you ignore the housing prices.
I'm booked this weekend, so I'll probably miss the sharktober thing. Have fun without me!

PS: Scheider's rocks - they recently got my hvac sorted out by relentless testing with heat guns applied upon assorted sensors while monitoring relays and whatnot. Good people over there.

Correct. Significantly modifying the guts of the motor is technically against CARB rules, but if you leave the outsides of the motor looking normal, and you keep the emissions gear hooked up, it should be trivial to pass both the visual inspection, and the sniff test - in fact it'll probably run rather clean.
My dream all along has been to build a street oriented sleeper. Very stock looking. Not crazy loud. Emphasis on huge low end torque for fun around-town romps, as opposed to extreme top-end-hp which most race folks need.
It'd be a little bit of an odd bird. But I believe it'd also been terribly fun to drive

Do you mean Schnieder's? Yes, they are very good. They did my post purchase inspection and caught up on deferred maintenance on a car I bought sight unseen. Since then I've been having work done by an independent guy that's worked for all of the main local shops, and in fact was 928 certified in Stuttgart. Very very happy with him.

Can I come see it?

I bought Lake Underwoods old 88 S4 auto with ~27k miles on it. I've been slowly but relentlessly fixing a modest list of age-related imperfections in it. New hoses, new steering rack, missing toolkit fastener, hvac sensor troubles, etc etc.
Once I have it "just right", I have that dream of a major upgrade to the motor department - focused very narrowly on street enjoyment, since that's the whole reason for having this car - weekend and occassional romps that make me grin as wide as possible.
Here's pics from when I bought it:
