Bronto: Yes, Schneider's. I just can't type.
and yes - I'm up near the intersection of State and Hollister. If you had a need to peek at another 928, I could catch you some weekend when I'm cleaning/tinkering. I'm email-able at ShawnSmith at *** dot net.

>Greg Brown has done that before and will no doubt do it again. He can build you anything !
Oh dear. This is simply info I didn't need to know
It was such an affordable dream when it was all abstract.
OK. Must invest harder. Must save pennies. Must have ~450 ft-lbs of torque.

Ha That'll be December then. Sharktoberfest this weekend, I'm going to Europe the next three weekends, and then 3 "thanksgiving" weekends in a row.

Nice 928 you have there................. Stroker is the only option right now for big HP that will still pass smog (visual anyway)...... Bummer is they are not cheap....
If you haven't already get an RMB (rear muffler bypass)...makes the engine sound SO much better and you gain a few HP too......928 intl or specialists sell then for under $200.
If you still want more sound volume and more power (who doesn't) then look into a X pipe....this typically gains about 20-30hp....so with a couple small mods you could be close to 300whp for not much $$$$ (think $1500 tops if you have it installed).....of course Greg Brown could do all this for you....

RMB already installed (and does sound glorious - I'd keep it for that alone).
I've dropped in a set of AA chips, and slipped 4 PSC tires onto the OEM wheels.
Platinum plugs to make sure everything sparks properly.
And I've dropped in a sealed lead acid battery that works better than whatever ancient die-hard was in it, and weighs half as much.
So much for the easy (and relatively affordable) stuff...
Must invest more. Must invest more.

so does anyone know the financial impact of one of these strokers? $10k? $15k?
do I tell my youngest that she better plan on scholarships rather than the bank of mom & pop?

I'd agree - having researched it, a good 6.4L rebuild is somewhere around $10k in parts (done right), and either another $5k to $10k in labor, or your own sweat and tears...
Definitely not the cheap way to add power. But there's no true substitute for the feel of cubic inches.

Shawn,
Most strokers I know about were $25K for the basics, and $40K+ for the works when done
at a shop. To take full advantage of a stroker, big valves, new cams, headers and exhaust
are needed, not just basic stroker crank, rods, pistons, rings, pins, bearings, and cylinder boring.
Then dyno and tuning can take many hours. So save your pennies. It is the best way to get
monster torque and still pass visual smog checks. Of course, when that's not enough power,
you can still supercharge it....

Or for $1000 you can add up to 250hp with nitrous. You can remove the system prior to emissions in minutes. Power on demand for romping around town. Tons of torque, that's where nitrous shines.
I've been running the shark about a year now with no issues. Started at 75hp and went up to 150 in stages. Went 175 about 4 months ago. Going 250 on the Hybrid when it's in. Nice thing is with a good progressive controller, you can dial in your power levels on the fly. Something a S/C or stroker can't do. With one dial I can quickly change max HP from 250hp back down to say 100hp. That's important when using giggle gas on the twisties.
Of course there's something to be said about owning a stroker, or even a SC, N2O is viewed by many as "Cheating" since it's so easy. It's like getting HP you didn't have to work for, therefor there is no honor in it.

Sure you can do it with a S/C or stroker. You use your right foot on a long narrow pedal down on the floor. The more you step on the pedal, the more power you "dial in" as you want it.
