Post Front Spoiler Bits

I am replacing the front spoiler...or whats left of it. Does anybody know what I need to install it, and their sizes (bolts, nuts, etc.)? I have the spoiler, but at $38+ for the install kit, I figured that I could get what I need at the hardware store.

Regards,
Shawn

Shawn,
If you are'nt in a hurry...
Im dropping mine for repairs this week and should be able to give you the word next week end.
You no there are some real hard to reachscrews and hard ware on the forward side of those lower front fender lips -the wrap around parts.
I don't think you can ignore them as they do provide support to both spoiler and fenders.
As I recall they are bolt and nut items with washers. This time I'll try slip on nut plates...
I'll let you know. I'm pretty sure the upper-metal- mount tabs are secured with 7 or 8mm cap -allen- screws.
I'm not sure of what you want, exactly. Did the spoiler come assembled and you are just looking for Mounting Hardware, or everything?
Bummer about the Steelers, self inflicted wound.

I am going to replace my front spoiler when the weather warms up. Thinking that I could use most of the hardware from the existing spoiler I did not purchase the install kit either.

Was this the right thing to do? John, I look forward to your post on replacing/repairing yours.

Thanks

I'm going to start a Shade Tree Mechanical Inc.
post,shortly. Bear with me.
Won't be homepaged like Tony's -Vegas Baby- site, but, will try to take some Low res. Digitals with short -I hope- commentary.
Will probably need an assist to upload.
Pattycakes will be off the ground -sort of- and please forgive the nasty - to me anyhow- condition of her usually glistening skin and glass. But, Hey... She'll be pampered after the work.
Hope to do's for the show:
1.Battery: service, cable swap out, trace from front to rear, pointing out chassis ground points, alt., cooler hose, temp gauge, marker lights. Maybe ball joints.
2.Spoiler: drop and repair -maybe, pretty bad this time- . Will point out the splash shield corner mount points, lower front and upper _solid tab mounts. My reconstruct may not work due to extensive breakage and shifting , the repair will be done off the car so there is every possibility the repaired mount holes won't line up and there may be a slight twist or two in the overall assembly. Prepare to ream out mount holes...
Aye, Aye, Sir!
Later

The alternator is supposed to have a cooling hose? Guess I better add that to the shopping cart. I suppose I'm supposed to have diverter pieces that direct air to the brakes also. Maybe I should take some underneath pictures to post and have you guys tell me what is missing. I still think the PO's drove this car down the highway without front tires/rims mounted.

I must say, 6 hours later, that was NOT fun! The tabs on the side near the top of the spoiler would NOT set right, and after that it didn't get any better. To those that want to do this on a 78-86, here are three pieces of advice:

1: Get somebody to help you. It will save time and effort. Practice grunting and cursing repeatedly beforehand; it helps. Extra points for stringing 4 or more together at once.
2. Buy more hardware (nuts, washers, bolts, etc) than you think you will need. I'd get the whole thing set up with washers, and then shift it into place, and the whole damn thing would throw the washers who knows where!
3: Do not do this when the wife/significant other is in the house. My language, according to my wife was "Breathtaking and Horrendous. You should be ashamed."

Regards,
Shawn

Sorry,
Not fast enough. I put mine up on a tapered curb then the street side wheels on
homemade wooden ramps. When you pull the forward
wheel well splash guards there is all kinds of room and a MUCH clearer view.
I thought I'd have to hire someone who was double jointed. Not so. Still, it's better to have a second set of hands.
As to the language... back in the early 70's
United Steelworkers - Local 1219 - in Braddock (old E.T. Works)won in a suit against U.S.Steel Corp. which was trying to fire people for cussing & swearing. As it turned out after a quick tour of the plant the court found that "everybody called everything a MF'er or worse". Declared the MFin' language common and impossible to ever eradicate or some MF-in' thing then dismissed the MF-in' case and everyone went back to the MF-in' Plant to get some F-in work done berore the F-in sun set. Something in the Air?
Most of us have been there and do return on occasion.
