Can someone outline the procedures as to how to clean fuel injectors on an S4?
Keep seeing this is one of the things that should be done on cars with 100K miles not running the smoothest. Does it require special tools or equipment?
Thanks.

It's best to send them out to have them cleaned - from what I've read, after it's done the results have been mixed.
Cleaning involves injecting a cleaner both foward and backwards through the injector and then testing the spray pattern... not a normal do it at home project.

You can try techron, but to really get them teated and cleaned, you will need to send them out. Some have reported great service from www.CruizinPerformance.com

I would do as Andrew suggests first as many have reported good results with just using a quality injector cleaner.
The 'trick' is to add the cleaner, run the car for 10 miles so that the cleaner is in the entire fuel system, and let the car set for a couple of days so that the cleaner can do it's work.

if the techron injection cleaner process doesnt work you could always pick up a NEW set of the updated 4 hole injectors ,off of Ebay that are from the ford mustang 5.0 you will need the 19lb injectors about 220.00 plus you may have to get new lower O rings as the ford O rings are a bit smaller. Otherwise its plug and play, always replace the fuel filter first before installing new injectors, it would be nice if one of the big 3 would start stocking these updated parts as more owners will start to have fueling problems and doing intake refreshes, on the 87 and newer cars

Now if you're adventurous I can show you how to make an injector cleaner out of an Xbox and paint gun..

Or at least, don't put it in right before going on a long road trip. As long as there is a significant amount of time that the treated gas is contact with the fuel system with the engine off, you should get effective results.

I sent mine out to Witchhunter Performance. They replaced the rings& pintels, bench flow tested, & mapped them in a readout- all within 1% of eachother. I had them back within a week- about $15 ea. IIRC.
