The key machine is a duplicator ..Rekord Plus USA/Italy ; the adapters are two angle clamps ...no record of part numbers , we bought it maybe ten years ago . It would be great if you could get the adapters and help some of the people near you get spare keys .....we really do not like to make keys with out having the car here to test them .

Brittany. If you are gonna be in GA this week, Jim Ellis can cut one for you, as long as you've got the correct documents. (They are on the upper edge of Atlanta just below the rt285 area, close to rt85).

Wally, and all......
For what it is worth, you can lock the key in the car by opening the passenger door, locking the drivers side door with the key, depositing the key in the car (through the passenger door) and then closing the passenger door.
That is how my wrench does it when I have to pick Gretch up after hours.....

I found a place where I could stick a magnetic box, and have a key in that. There arn't too many places on your aluminum cars!
Btw, your Brittany problem sounds exactly like mine. The rubber cup inside the female part of the latch is basicly gone. I don't belive your going to be able to get the rubber part. It seems to be pretty well glued into the female part, and basicly falls apart when you try to remove it.
The quick and cheap fix is to take duct tape, or a sutiable subsitute, and over the back side of the male part of the latch, untill you get the results you want. The duct tape holds up OK, but over a long peroid of time, it gets degraded.
A slightly longer lasting, and better looking, but still cheap fix is to get a peice of poster board. Cut a small rectange that will fit on the back side of the female part of the hatch. Cover it in masking tape untill it is the correct thickness. Get some double sided tape, and put some on the back side of the peice. Attach the peice on the back side of the inside side female part of the latch.
This keeps the male part forced up aginst the frount side of the latch, and allows the plastic catch to hold.
A true OEM fix would be to get a replacement female part of the latch, and install it. I figure one of the big three could get you one, or a large junk yard in the closest large city would be able to do it.

Brittany, if you make it to the Porsche swap meet next month in PA, Tony can cut your key there while you wait. He cut two spares for me last year, $30 each if I recall, whats nice is that I could make sure they worked on the spot, he also has batterys, bulbs, springs and covers if you need them.

Hi Brit,
Any plastic or vinyl thick enough will do. You can use snips and cut a piece from a variety of household containers you may have. I just happened to have a scrap of siding and the thickness was perfect. I would not use metal, as you need the sliding action which vinyl or plastic will give you.

Jim:
I can confirm that keys made from the VIN are still not coming back right. The reason my key experience took 3 months is because the first key I received didn't work...at all. The second key worked, but not as smoothly as the old key.
I had to go through the dealer because I have only one key....and my 928 is my daily driver. I couldn't send the key off to be copied.
Incidentally, the $70 bill was for the key blank and the cutting. No lighted keyhead. Actually, the head was about the size of a dime!!!!! It was basically a cap that needs to be replaced by your existing lighted key head.
Britt:
If you have a friend that has the capability of molding and reproducing parts, I think there are a lot of people on this list that would have suggestions for other replacement parts...I, for one, would love to see an inexpensive replacement for our door and window seals. It's just rubber!
