Here, look towards end of this thread:

The shark should not be afraid of an early retirement, after all, the choice of new car is based on my positive experiences with the shark.
My new Cayman is a completely different car compared to the 928, it is also much better than expected.
I find that this little crocodile complements the shark very good.

It IS a Boxster with a hardtop.
You can now actually buy a Cayman-look hardtop for the Boxster.
What you do not get with the hardtop is the added structural stiffness of a roof.
The Cayman is set up different, that is, the chassis tuning is different, from the Boxster.
Equipment list may be slightly different.
Now the Boxster also comes with the 3.4 l S engine option.
None of them comes with big bromm-bromm 5l V8 that jerks your head back in to the headrest when you push the pedal.
They both come with paper-performance better than any stock 928.
It is just a matter of choice - roof (always rains here, == roof!) or no roof.

My thoughts exactly.
From what I've read and heard, the Cayman S would be a serious competitor, and probably surpass the 911 in performance, if only Porsche would put a suitable engine in it.
I'd buy a Cayman in a heart beat if I had the funds. Since I don't, I may look into one of the older Boxsters. There are so many out there and they are so inexpensive, its unbelievable (to me). I just saw what looked to be a very nice one on craigslist up here for under $13k!

This one is probably high miles, but I've seen plenty of really nice sub 100k mile Boxsters in the $15k range.
It's making it a bit tough to keep my S4, I hate to say.
Back to the Cayman: its on my long term radar.
