Question 2 Transmissions - What would you do with 1?

Given the availability and age of our beasties, if you had two 5-spd transmissions (both with 2.2 differential), from 85 - 86.5 cars

Would you keep one as a spare or sell one to make room in the garage and feed the upderfixin fund?

Does the spare has an LSD? If so I am interested if you're selling it.

Both are non LSD.

Both are subject to possible rebuilds. One is leaking at the seal where the torque tube and tranny mate. The other may have a broken reverse lockout, that I hope didn't muck up any of the gears.

I want to get out of the rebuild with as much $$$ left in my pocket as possible. I have other things that I have been dying to get to. But as stated in my original post, should I be concerned enough about the availability of parts in the future that having a spare transmission would be wise.

Thanks!

James,

I would give it to another Rennlister

Maybe someone with a high miler who may need it in the future so he can rebuild it and have it ready in case of a problem with his.

No seriously, if you've got room, I'd just keep it. Probably won't be that hard to find another one if you need it anytime in the future. The recyclers know the value of these cars so as they go bad, the parts cars are being collected instead of crushed, but if you get rid of it, you know you'll need it within six months.

Sell one and next week one you have left explodes. Do not sell it and one in use will last forever.

Unfortunately, that seems to be how luck works.

If I had an extra sitting around, I'd rebuild it myself and keep it as a spare.

And if it is clean enough, nice display piece.
