Yes, that's an alternative. That's never been touched on my car. If he does that, he will need new seals for that. Actually, I find the manifold easy to get up in the air, but your way is probably faster.

Car is prepped and ready. coolant drained. New gaskets on hand as well as sealant that is impervious to oil, water & gasoline.

Question: I see two bolts on each side of the water manifold. Is that all (in addition to the thermostat and 3 top hoses)?

Please and thank you.

Yes.

It would have been better if you posted this in the original thread as I almost passed this thread up.

Thanks. I got the manifold out. Not really that difficult. I found the hose venting to the left (passenger side) rocker cover almost completely broken off. Is this it or is the oil still leaking from the oil filler seal too.

thanks

The oil is leaking from the busted hose from the base of the oil filler neck to the passenger side valve cover, a common problem. Mine looked like an exploded cigar!

Thanks for all the advice. I did remove the oil filler line and checked the gasket to be seated properly. then I took the advise and put some sealant. I will know in a week if there was success.
