Is your car in better shape now than when you bought it?

Mine is better shape mechanically, but cosmetically I've added a few bruises. While I’d like to say the scratches on the front bumper was from when I was following a corvette; but in reality, the majority of damage has occurred in my garage while working on the car.

Is it a matter of intentional improvement, or did some catastrophy prompt the project?

It's my daily driver again. I'm tempting fate. I figure it'll stay as my daily driver until the next big repair takes it off the road for a long time again.

I've certainly been refining it.
TB+WP of course.
Rebuilt Steering Rack (old rack leaked - 20 year old seals just were not tight any more).
New brake lines all around (were working fine, but had never ever been replaced which worried me)
RMB (ah, love that sound)
Assorted re-work of the rear compartment, wheel well cover, toolkit fastener, insulation replace, etc.
New hoses and R12 for the AC (which works fine, thank-you!)
Driver's power window gear replace.
Outside temp sensor replace (wow - I've got options other than all-hot and all-cold now!)
Seems like a lot, but now as best I know, EVERYTHING works as new.

Well mine like Dr Bobs has a lot more miles at about 84K vs 34K when I bought it.
However it had lots of deferred maintenance when I got it and it is now totally ship shape.
The paint has of course suffered through the miles a little - although its not much worse than it was.
However my car now has many many features it didn't have ... some of which it absolutely should have had new and I do appreciate just about all of them every day!
Overall its a much better and quite unique car now... yes it gets driven just about every day - but it seem to like it!

Dave - to ever even think about saying you are "Done" with it suggests both a lack of imagination on the one hand and a cavalier gauntlet on the ground challenge to 'Murphy' on the other...
... too risky !

Mechanically.....yes a little bit, since it was pretty good to start with only real issues were A/C & fuel pump with minor things
Cosmetically.....HELL YEA....the paint always was good, its just better now....the wheels are way better....& the interior looks 100% brand new since I fixed the seats and updated a couple other things.....

Faster now. But better shape, no. But I can't imagine a 75k+ car being in better shape than a 17k car without gobs of restoration, paint, etc. I am glad that a lot of you guys put a great deal of attention into your cars maintaining and enhancing their beauty. Keep it up. Thanks.

It's always two steps forward and one step backwards with these cars.
Fix two systems and soon after another system craps out. It's just a matter of how long you can sustain the money hemoraging.

Maybe for some. Whenever mine even starts to think about a step backwards, I tell it I love it, massage money into it, and carress it gently with the polished wrenches. It's worked so far. I only inherited one or two significant problems with the car, and they were managed completely in the first year of ownership. Mine has been super reliable. It's gotta be the love.
