I think I would update everything to get it back to stock specs. However, if Scot is really serious (and already getting 95% out of the car), I'd dump the entire stock setup and go with a stand alone controller. A Haltech E6 would work nicely. I'm sure there isn't anything to be gained by fueling, but you could probably add another 5 degrees of advance with better gas. It would probably cost about a grand. I'm not sure if a grand is the cheapest way to get an extra 10 hp in his case. Or if 1k into the suspension would realize a better result.

The MSD's multi spark at lower RPM will help with fuel burn. Since we tend to stay above the 3500rpm thresh hold, it will only do one bigger spark.

I guess it all boils down to how much spark do you really need and when. I have noticed no difference with the MSD except when hitting the N2O. Even then it's minimal. But hey, it looks cool and attracts the chicks.

they rewired the connectors, one was almost completely disconnected, and that was the one that was probably the culprit. just by chance, it has worked for his last 6 weekends. so far, spark is not an issue with the high rpm operation now.

I think the MSD came up with one of the shop helpers that has used it on other cars successfully.

He should be good now. I was amazed how well he did at laguna against some pretty well built cars. my M3 buddie, said that scot would be just as fast down the straights as him. not surprising, since he has 287rwhp and scot has 289rwhp! the bmw does have the 200lbs weight advantage though and $5000 bucks worth of Moton suspension work!

I have the stock spark box through an MSD with a Blaster II coil. I have a square wave tach installed into my old tach housing. It plugs directly into the MSD unit. There is a tach port on the side of the unit. One precaustion. I had an issue with the spark intensity. The coil wire at the cap terminal arched out under the boot and grounded to the hold down screw. I scraped the deep carbon track out as good as I could with the edge of a screw driver, painted the groove with my wife finger nail polish, added a round of vinyl tape for luck, and fired that mother back up. Come to think of it I still never changed that cap....
