Left Headlight Shattered...
What do I need? I don't think I need the whole head light assembly...I was wondering where I could get the lense & light assembly??? Is this something I can find at a local autoparts store?
Sorry for the elementary question, but I am new to the 928 game.
Thanks

Well for an 87 you pretty much need the whole thing. There is no glass only option - you'll need the whole H5 lens unit. You may find used - otherwise its probably about $275 or so - check with 928internationsl/928specialists.
Might be a time to consider H4's (do a search). New H4's were slightly cheaper than H5's when I bought mine - and you can probably sell the H5 left over on ebay... just a thought...

^^^Thanks. That is pretty much what I figured. I was hoping (naively) that I could pic up another one at the local hardware store...That is what too many years of Vette ownership will do to you...

Many hardware stores won't even have the metric bolts you need for this car... welcome to 928 ownership! - fortunately it has its compensations....

You could backdate it to the pre S4 US headlight holders that take standard DOT headlights. They are pretty ugly, but they are cheap and can be had at a hardware store. 928 intl, (and perhaps Roger above) have used H5s (probably what you need) for about half the new price.

Good used housing $140 , after all that was what you had before it got shattered and the illumination bulbs are replaceable at most any auto parts stores when they burn out .

Jim has a good point. Soon after I bought my car, had to replace a fog lamp assy dur to rock damage. New looked great, but suddenly the original on the other side got real tired looking. Fate took care of my dilema by rock-smashing the old lens a few months later, so I ended up with a matched set. Put stoneguards on them at the same time, no problems since.
On to reality on your car-- Take a lok at your remaining lamp and decide how foggy the reflector is. If it's noticeably foggy, consider buying a pair of new lamps and keep the old one as a spare. The difference in lighting between old and new is suprising, notwithstanding the difference in appearance when they are off. The new lamps aren't cheap. That option also opens the door to installing new H4's which I highly recommend. More usable light, less glare for oncoming drivers, same price or less than the H5's.

Fortunately the "good" light is not in bad shape, but you do raise a vaid point. I too am one of those "while I'm in there" or "while I am thinking about it/fooling with it I might as well" kind of guys. How do I tell the difference between H4s & H5s????
Thanks again gentlemen for tolerating my elementary questions. Although I am not new to the world of Porsche ownership, I am new to the world of 928s & I know enough to know that I don't know anything about them!!!

The USA legal H-5 has three little nipples on the glass so headlight aiming equipment can be used also says DOT molded into the glass....H-4 has a big H-4 molded into the center of the lens Also the Bosche box has different part numbers...
