Default manifolds and superchargers

I am currently in the process of looking at upgrading my exhaust system and I have a few options I am looking at. I have the stock manifolds on my car right now (1980 us version) and I was thinking of putting in a y-pipe with a borla catback system or swapping out my stock manifolds to put on a set of ss 85-86 manifolds with a y-pipe and borla catback system. Is it worth it to swap out the manifolds? is there any real performance gain between the ss and cast iron manifolds both running the y-pipe and borla catback setup? I would like to put a supercharger on the car in the future once I have everything fixed up and running solid on the car. Let me know your opinions.

Anyone? I know the ss manfolds will give a performance gain but how much over the stock cast iron manifolds? Does it effect the lower end or higher end range in power?

Nobody to my knowledge has ever done a true back to back comparison with just the manifolds. I was going to but ran out of time. It's a hard question because most people upgrade everything when they swap manifolds.

The reason why I ask this is because if I keep my exisiting manifolds the y-pipes that I can buy are a direct bolt on. If I went to the ss manifolds, the y-pipes that are out there have to be modified and lengthened on one side for it to fit properly. I honestly don't want to modify and cut a new y-pipe for a 2-3 hp gain.

I could see if Todd would make another spacer like I'm using. He started with a solid chunck of stainless, cut a hole in the middle & added the bolts for the flange. Works great.

I thought the guys in Utah were offering a Y-collector that fit up to the SS manifolds on a 16V car.

It's not as cool as saying you have SS manifolds... but I got a big jump in torque and power on my '81, mainly by porting the outlet of the stock cast iron manifolds to 1mm smaller than the ID of the gasket, ~51mm » ~54mm (using a die grinder, with the manifolds still on the engine).
