Default Option Code

I've found all the codes for my 89S4 Euro except for one that is on the label:

C00 - someone told me this was "Eurospec Emissions"

Is this correct and what does it mean?

Thx

Its standard ROW emission equipment for that particular year, mainly meaning German specs. Up to about '89 MY it meant no catalytic converters and after that they were included unless separate delete option was selected.

Ok, that makes sense. My car is an 89, originally with no cats.

I've been having some emission issues that I'm trying to solve. My HC and CO levels passed emission but my Nox level was 1250. I need 918 to pass. This is becasue I think the car is running quite lean.

Somewhere along the line a factory cat was added to pass a visual emission inspection I believe.

I'm wondering if the car is coded as a ROW without Cat and A/T and it's tuned properly, i.e. - adjusting the CO level to factory spec using the POT, will it be able to pass North american emissions tests?

What are the emissions standards in Europe? Are the emission gas levels the same as in North America?

Also, some people here have posted that you should disconnect the vacuum line on the airpump diverter valve before testing, according to Porsche? Is that true?

Brent,

Didn't you say your cat air injection pipe was capped? The rear of the cat converts NOx with the help of the injected air, so it may not be doing it's job. The cat could be bad, too.

Hi Ken,

First off, thx for the liftbars, tried them out yesterday, great design and makes life much easier! And good to meet you!

Yes, I have a cat that was put on the car but it originally came without one. The air injection pipe was capped. It has the air injection system that goes directly into the manifolds.

Last year, the LH was recoded by a localshop last year for ROW, USA with Cats and A/T. WSM 24-221, Pins 1,2,4,7. However this is the code for MY 87-88. Mine is an 89.

I've switched it back to ROW with Cats and A/T even though I have a Cat. WSM 24-222, Pins 1,2,4,6.

However, it looks like the shop was on the right track but an 89 coding for ROW, USA with Cats and A/T would be Pins 1,2,4 with a 150 ohm resistor between pins 7 & 8. Not sure what the resistor does?

With 1,2,4,6 I think I can adjust the CO levels at the test ports to spec and richen the mix. As per WSM 24-214.

I'm thinking this would lower the combustion temp. and hence the high Nox?

Forgot to mention that last year the car passed all gas tests?

Any thoughts

Thx

Brent
