How to disconnect throttle cables

I'm reading/studying everything I can prior to parts for intake refurb arriving - some great threads here and info on the Pirtle site and of course David Chamberlands write-up. Can't wait to get stuck into the job and see what condition of hoses etc is like - I don't think it's ever been done on my '88 but I only have detailed records from 2000.
Please forgive what may seem obvious question to you guys. I know I will have to disconnect cables from throttle bracket at side of manifold and from quadrant on throttle body itself.
These are all ball and socket style joints. Is there a trick to separating them easily without risk of damaging anything? When I renewed hatch and hood struts you just had to pull off a clip and the joint came apart, but I don't see anything similar with the throttle cables - just plain hollow ***** at ends of cables attached to *****. Do you just pull hard or is there a more elegant technique?
Thanks for your advice.

Bob-
You inspired me to go look. No wire retainers that I can see at the throttle quadrant, on either ball. Maybe they're missing? Not sure how you'd get to a spring clip on the ball at the throttle plate when the intake is still attached...

OK-- I had to go look. The TV cable adjustment has the wire bale holding it on at the relay bellcrank. The others have their retainers internal. GT owners don't have TV cables. You don't know what you are missing!

Only the AT Bowden cable has the wire clip on cars that I've dealt with. They usually still need some encouragement for the ball to come of the socket.

My car has 2 wire clips; I'll need to go look at which 2 though.
Getting the ***** off the sockets was easy with gentle persuision from a small pair off needle nose pliers.

You just use the aforementioned flatblade screwdriver and pop them off.
Some have the rings external which are a bitch cause they get lost ---alot!
