Default Danced with a late model Mustang!

I pulled up at a light (on my local closed course) next to a late model Mustang with a kid at the wheel (note: to me "kid" now means anyone who still has all of his hair). I pull up and he looks over. I'm thinking we've each got about 300 hp give or take and this should be interesting.

I don't usually engage in this kind of thing since I replaced my clutch, because although it was a great learning experience, I don't look forward to replacing it again for a while. So when the light changes he leans into it, but not all the way. I let it out a little slowly and then we're dead even going about 10mph when we both go. Big mistake for him. He definitely would have had me if he had jumped on it right away, but from a rolling start, it was really close.

I'm pretty sure he had an automatic because when I looked over he was pretty much just holding on for dear life. I shifted at about 6k in first and second in no time and first he's ahead by a fender, then I'm ahead as the rpms arc over the top of the dial and the peak of the torque curve.

Now I'm into third and pulling hard, slowly inching then cruising even and ahead. We both lifted when we approached other drivers on this closed course at almost the same instant, but at the time I was looking over at his front bumper.

The sound of the two cars wide open was very cool. He looked over and I gave a thumbs up, which he returned and then continued on. Score one for the old guy in the old car.

Happy 9/28 everyone.

Ate one up today also. Couple of kids in a very well put together car. Had great exhaust and what I consider an Aero kit. I was impressed, until we both got on it at the stop light. when I shifted out of 1st he was behind by a car length +, 2nd gear at 70 or so he was 5-6 back.

We did sound great tho. Thumbs up to each other and we went on our way.

the SC'd rousch 4.6L stuff put out about 375chp. I love eating them up. they get pretty pissed/surprised as do the vette boys. haven't tangled w/a 505hp vette, but I suspect my head will be hanging on someones trophy wall if I make that mistake. da local popo is also now cruising around in rods tricking folks into street racing so they can bust them. usually have 2 clean cut types though/easy to spot. just never know what's up till it's too late around here

I had a weird night last night. I was out putting some miles on the car, and there was a (somewhat) older gentleman in a Mazdaspeed6 (I love the look of that car) who was driving fairly aggressively (on a closed course). I was behind him as we made a right turn into a clear 2 lane section of road. As we turned the corner I heard him floor it and there were puffs of dark smoke coming from his exhaust. Well, I decided to floor it too, coming up from behind him I just flew past him. Dude had a Scottish flag in his back window, but wouldn't look.

About a 1/2 hour later, 2 kids in a WRX coming tearing up from behind me, pull along side me and match my speed. They then drop what must have been a couple of gears and floor it. After they do this twice and I ignore them, I decide enough is enough. Predictably, they do it for a 3rd time when I am doing about 45 or so. I manually drop it to second and floor it. The tires spin a little then hook up (thanks 295s), and I easily walk away from them. I come up to my turn, and they swing in behind to follow. I make my right hand turn and they swing out from behind at full throttle. When they are even with me, I floor it, and the car responded instantaneously, an again I walk away.

If this was on the streets, I would not condone this type of behavior, yada, yada, yada, but this is the first time I've been able to judge the SC against other cars, and I came away favorably impressed.

Nicely done. I don't think I'd have a chance against a WRX in my car, but that SC must really kick. Damn I'll bet that's fun.

^^^ easily. a stroker gets that + 440ftlbs of rwtq too... and the wrx gears are pretty short, so while they are thrasing gears we just walk away and smile w/their awd off the line they are fierce till we can hook up/usually by the time they are hitting 2nd we are pulling harder...

I had sales rep in from LA last week, and he had a Mustang GT as rental car. It looked good and sounded better. He offerd me a drive. I stomped that thing around for about 15 minutes. Lousy handling, and unimpressive power.

All I could think was that it was a pretty cheap source for 300hp, at half the price of my car (which has 280hp). Looks and sounds great though! I was expecting way more grunt from an eight cylinder. If I test drove a 928 and it felt like this, I would be pissed. Even at 15 years old.

Had what appeared to be a nicely set up 2004 or earlier body style pony riding my tail on the way home the other day. Two lane curvy roads and uphill climb between 2500 and 3250 elevation. The Stang appeared to be quite stiff in the area of suspension and sounded, from what I could hear being in front of him, pretty healthy. Now mind you I'm new with the 928 and have old tires on the front and also needing shocks, Konis most likely will be my choice, but I got aggressive anyway, and while pushing to the point of just breaking traction in the curves I was able to pull away from this guy, who always gave it everything he had to get back on my butt in the straighter runs. Don't know if I had more B's in the curves or if the 928, even with bad shocks, is just that much better of a handler than a set up 'Stang. Either way it was fun and I'm glad El Dorado County Sheriff wasn't coming down the hill. I wonder who he would have swung around to pull over?

Probably you, Dennis. He would naturally assume there's a good chance the Mustang driver is cop.
