+1 in what a4sfed said.

It will be all one size when you remove the bearing inner race - the shiny thing

There are two inner races in the rear wheel bearing because it is a double row bearing.

Whatever is on there doesn't look like the bearing that's supposed to be there. Did someone try to adapt a standard ball bearing or something?

That's awesome! I'll try that next time I'm in Sweden. Or surrounded by Mexicans, Asians, or whoever's language I don't understand much of...

If you remove the remaining part of the bearing it should be the same.
What I see in your picture is a rear wheel hub with piece of the old bearing still there.

Mike,

Try some extreme wear and bearing failure... so- there are times when 320lbs of torque is good.. I'll find someplace on the website to post a close up... then it becomes much more obvious. When I pulled the wheel carrier off I could move the hub several inches in any direction... (Ok - I'm not a mechanic... and never seen a bad or good one.. so there's nothing for me to compare what I see too - that's the frustrating part about not having any experience)... Took the part to the shop to have the bearings pressed out... and that's when the guy showed me a good one and a bad one... BTW - $6.00 for labor.. - Small country shop - the guy starts quoting all the specs on the 928, naming movies.. etc..

Now the weird part - I did notice a small noise from the rear just before my last race and checked the torque on the axle nut - it was almost finger loose - tightened it and the noise was gone... Anyway - 928Intl comes to the rescuse... as usual.. new hub is on it's way..... Off to replace the front bearings today..

Chuck......i'm about to tear into my passenger rear hub......after a DE event last week, the small noise i hear is much louder.....its a speed sensitive noise, like something is rubbing on rotation....ive swapped out a different set of rims and tires and its the same, so thinking it might be wheel bearing.....does this sound similar to your bearing problem?

Yes.. Mine did get worse with time... but I've read many of the posts.. and something as simple as a parking brake or stuck calipers.. those are pretty easy problems to find... On mine - with the wheel off I could pull and push on the rotor and had movement not a good sign.. For me.. my calipers are new, good rotors, new half shafts, no parking brake.. so that didn't leave too many options. If you do find that it's the wheel bearing - it's one of the easiest jobs I've found to do... I'm not into pain - so I removed the wheel carrier and paid $6.00 to have the remove and press in the new bearing.

Kind of hard to see, from the angle on your picture, but it looks like the surface on the hub where the inner wheel bearing race sits is chewed up. This happens when the axle nut comes loose and the bearings run loose. Get a used one, if this is the case.
