Default Loctite 290 experience after 2 years and 12000 miles (Update Oct. 2009)

After I adjusted the backlash on my differential it was easy to check the flexplate for any movement.

Reminder:
I had to replace the torque converter bearings in November 2005. The car had 110k miles and the torque converter carrier bearings where replaced and the torque tube was replaced with a 928 International rebuilt unit.

The car was shipped in 2006 back to Germany and serves as my daily driver during the summer months. The car is driven normally around town but sees speeds beyond 140 MPH on a regular basis on the Autobahn.

The flexplate has still NOT moved at all since 2 years GREAT!!!
The engine is still bone dry with the silicone oil pan gasket and the motor mounts are now 4 years old (Anchor) and show no fatique.

Life is good!
Just wanted to share my experience...

Schocki,
Did you do your carrier and TC bearing replacement yourself, shop, or with the Renn gang?
Was there any difference on torque spec for the oil pan bolts with the silicone gasket/ and did you have to retorque the pan bolts?
More good anecdotal data (for my opinion) on the Loctite. Apparently some have issues with it but, in it's defense, with proper prep I have had excellent results and no issues on removal other than a little extra arm and grunt.
Pattycakes the Wunder- Weissach (82' Weissach) also has a diet of mostly driver with the occasional blast to the 144-147 mph end of the speedo (with some rpms and a good bit of pedal left) though I've been told by others it can't go there ....
As always, I admire the unique (blood) red intake/bar/heads .... positively evil.
My son, Zack, and friend are currently touring Europe -on the cheap- and are 'enjoying' Amsterdam at this time with the ultimate goal of experiencing 'the Fest' at both Stuttgart and Munich before staggering home.
Do you have any automotive (Merc/Bimmer/P-car points) of interest they might see when not passed out on a riverbank somewhere?

Did the work all by myself with the help of our exchange student. I have an extensive collection of all kinds of tools in my garage. My cars never see the dealership. That's probably the reason why they don't give me any headaches

The torque tube was cleaned with acetone. The same procedure was applied to the flexplate. Everything was adjusted to factory specification, torqued down and finally glued with Loctitie 290.

BTW: How hard is it to remove the flexplate and what did you use? Heat only?

The silicone gasket takes the same torque and I never re-torqued the bolts. The car is still bone dry.

The Porsche museum is not worth the travel. They are building a new museum right now. But the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart is very good ! I have never been there but heard only good things about it

Started the R&P project on my GTS today and checked the flexplate movement after using Loctite 290 in 2005. The car has done 133k and runs just fine. Since the Loctite 290 treatment the flexplate has NOT moved at all, the transaxle is so far "maintenance free" .

From my point of view: What are you guys waiting for? There is an answer to flexplate movement...
simple and very effective Loctite 290

It's not just an AT it's "the superior automatic transmission". If I would have stayed longer in TX, Roger and I would have converted/upgraded a 5 speed to the superior auto box

I'm waiting for my TC or TT bearings to go and I replace the TT before I glue the clamp down (or do the early style shaft with shims), but the car just keeps going on original parts. So, I just check the plate every 6 months or so. It seems to establish an equilibrium of 1-2mm of preload no matter how often I check it or how much I torture the drivetrain. I do an annual crank endplay check and it has been stable at 0.008" (0.2mm) for the 5 years that I have been checking it.

Anyway, glad to hear the glue is holding.

One of the many problems of trying to write a language that is only spoken.

The point is that many German words like Wein are reversed here like for example Wien or shortened to Wie
Important stuff like Bier mostly stays the same.
are we off topic now? Anyway manual 928s rock & autos do the other thing
