Just wondering if anyone knew this car. I know very little about 928's, but the more I see the more I like.
Thanks,

Don't know the car directly. Have received a few notes from a fella who has looked at it. Appears to be mechanically very sound, cosmetically has some very minor issues (a 2" dent in one rear quarter that I'm guessing could push out with paintless dent repair, a few visible scratch touch ups, slight seat wear). I'd look at it but I'm really short on time at the moment.

Not meaning to take away from a well taken care of vehicle, but that sounds the kind of price you would pay for a very low mileage, Concours-ready type.

Then again, I've heard 5-speeds can be harder to find and I like the color (& color is very important to me).

At risk of offending the seller of a car I've never seen, I have a gut feeling it should sell for $22-23K. The owner and previous owners were apparently very compulsive about the mechanicals. Note they chose to fix the ignition monitoring system at huge expense. I would have canned that. The guy that saw the car was surprised to see the cosmetic issues, as minor as they were, considering the compulsiveness demonstrated elsewhere. I would have addressed those as well and sold it as a perfect car. I saw an essentially perfect low mile 91 GT a few months back being sold for $25.5K, and it did not sell quickly.

looks like a damn nice car to me. Of course there are no pics of the interior, but $25K is no run out tonight and buy it price, but I think its correct. I hope he holds out for his asking price. There seems to be 1-2 GT's available for sale at anyone time. So they are by no means common. 70K miles is definately on the low end. Sub 100K mile GT's are even more rare then a GT period.

Thanks all for the input. Based on Bill's post, I'm thinking maybe with a little negotiation, this car might be OK. Um, wait... Actually, the interior of this car is trashed. No one here should even consider this one.
Regarding timing belt -- it was last done October 2000, or 22,000 miles ago. It was checked 450 miles ago and "tension perfect, Porsche logo still visible." Is this OK?
Also, just out of curiosity, what kind of gas mileage do these cars get?
Thanks again,

IMHO, yes. There is no specific age limit on the belt. I average 18MPG, hit 22 on the freeway. Pretty amazing for a late 80s muscle car.

I filled up today and moaned and groaned all the while as I noticed the prices have risen back to their old highs. Then I said to myself: "C'mon Ron, you didn't really buy this machine for its fuel economy!" And that is true. However, I can and have gotten 22 mph from San Jose to Los Angeles by being conscious constantly of the throttle position and not exceeding 100 mph at any time (that is not so easy to do). Then on the return trip I recalled how I almost fell asleep at the wheel coming down and wondered why anyone would buy a 928 for long distance commuting instead of a Honda if they wanted to maximize their mileage while minimizing their grin factor. Then it was pedal to the metal and the grin cracked my face the whole way back. Fuel is not your major concern if you're worried about cost. You should worry more about rear tires. Ask Bill.

Generally speaking the best fuel mileage 928's are the 2.20 geared cars......60mph is only 2K rpms! In 5 speeds that are driven "slow" can get mid 20's.....but low 20's is typical.....my auto averages about 20mpg on the highway...but I tend to drive pretty fast! I got just under 20 averaging almost 90mph the whole way home from LA!

Any news on the car, are you going for it!
My personal mileage has ranged anywhere from 15 - 22 mpg depending on how I drive it.
