We were going to leave Friday morning, however have now decided to try and leave Thursday afternoon if at all possible. The plan is to either arrive in Daytona late or stop somewhere close so that we can make it there Friday morning with a short trip.

Is the weather going to hold up?

I know zilch about Daytona, but I do know how to use the internet. How about this place called the "Daytona Brickyard" as a possible meeting place on Thursday evening? www.daytonabrickyard.com Seems to be automotive oriented and inexpensive.. Also, it would be a good compromise between those who are staying on the beach and those staying near the track. The address is - 747 W International Speedway Blvd Daytona FL Check Google Maps and you will see it is in the middle of things.

Any takers here? Or if anyone knows this is a dog of a place speak up.

We were in Daytona/Ormond Bch tonight. It was so windy along SRA1A that you could barely keep your car on the road when a gust came off the ocean. It was pretty bad way out on I-95 too. Couldn't drive too fast or you'd be all over the road. There's a cold front coming in from the northwest to push tropical storm Noel out into the Atlantic. It will pass off the coast on Friday so hopefully it will start clearing by the weekend. Still will be awesome, even if its windy & overcast. Forecast for Friday here in Jax is a low of 55 in the morning.... thats pretty chilly for here so far this fall.

Joe, Russell would be the expert on what & where in Daytona. Perhaps he can give you the thumbs up or down on the Brickyard as a meeting place. I know I've seen it as many times as I've been up and down International Dr., but I've never been there to eat. I would guess it'd be just fine, but maybe Russell will pop in here & give you his 9.28 cents worth on it.

I frequent the Brickyard for lunch. It's a dump, but they have the best hamburgers in town. Not sure if it's the best place for a get together. Sketchy part of town, limited parking and limited seating. It would work for a small group. They do have good food though!

Most of the restaruants are either out west near the speedway or on the beachside. Not much to offer in the "middle" of Daytona.

The weather has not been nice at all. WINDY and wet. Hopefully it will clear some for the weekend. The beach is a total washout, the surf is right up to the seawalls and rough.

Don't want to go to a dump! Scratch the "Brickyard". Hope we settle on something else. I defer
to the natives. Thanks for the warning, DCS928.

I think it's going to be gorgeous by friday, perhaps some lingering wind. Thursday p.m. should be great at the beach. G

Joe, if you want to get together on thursday night and go find a ****ty place on the beach from which to check out the surf and get a bite, I'm in. I'll be there by myself and probably hungry from hitting the waves. G --- My cell is 727 432 7735

I really want to get some shark shots ON THE BEACH!

How about using radios tuned to '928' frequency -- if there is a gtg or some-such 'shark announcement?'
Just a thought... Call or email for contact info.

Departing today...it's Daytona or Bust for me... (hopefully Daytona!)

It's not that bad, and the food is really good. Just probably not the place for an evening get together.

Beachside, go to the Ocean Deck and eat upstairs. Good view, good food. Expect it to be crowded, and parking is tight, although they do have comp. valet. Best seafood is either at the "Deck Down Under", under the Dunlawton Ave. bridge on the S.E. side (very cool place) or down to Ponce Inlet at the Inlet Harbor or Down the Hatch. Or Park's Seafood in Holly Hill.

Daytona is Restaruant challenged sorry. The best places to eat are either south to Ponce Inlet/ Port Orange area or north to Ormond Beach. The food quality along A-1-A in Daytona, where all the motels are is generally poor.

Steaks probably the Long Horn just west of the Speedway. Gene's Steakhouse (fancy, stuffy) west of 95 on ISB. Webers Steakhouse on US-1 South Daytona, (small and funky but quality steak). Billy's Tap Room beachside SR 40 Ormond (best all around in town, my opinion).

You know we could actually do that. If the weather is nice. I'm certainly not prepared but with a little help we could throw something together. If everyone is up for a non-racetrack event that could happen.

My neighbors would only be jealous of all the cool cars .

George,

Thanks for your cell. I will try to round up Jeff M. also who is coming up from Miami and give you
a ring tomorrow evening if the stars line up properly.
